I followed you, using the pause button a lot, but that's ok, and i set up my first server exactly as you said. you are brilliant, thank you so much. i'm setting up a server for sharing internrational coaching ideas. i'm also 60 years old and this is my first time watching - geekitude, and everything worked exactly as you had described and shown. just brilliant. joining your server too. martin

Thanks so much bro, I was struggling quite a bit with setting up my server, so this helped a ton!
  • Really thorough job. (I know you jumped past many features) We're having an experienced Admin redo our server and this tutorial will let me begin to ask the right questions and be sure we haven't missed something we want to include in our upgrade. Thanks!
  • I have been following this step by step (of course adding in my own personal touches) and this has been game changer.

Literally made so much more sense to me, I can have a legit gaming server now

Thanks for this video. I’m setting up a server for a gaming clan and this helped out a lot.

Unfortunately, Libertas (the bot featured in this video) has announced today that they are shutting down the bot on November 12th, 2023. I went over how to setup a few things with this bot in the last segment of the video, 22:27 - 28:24. I have a different video out on a great alternative you can use, Sapphire, which can be found here: https://youtu.be/lDWR-h53KoI . This should be more than enough to get you a good utility bot setup in your server, and I even cover a bit more in that video than I did in this one!

If you don't want to write out word by word of discord rules here are some main ones: 1) Be respectful This means no mean, rude, or harassing comments. Treat others the way you want to be treated. 2) No inappropriate language Use of profanity should be kept to a reasonable minimum. Any derogatory language towards any user is prohibited. Swearing is permitted in casual channels only, while the official help and code channels should be kept free of any profane language. 3) No spamming Do not send a lot of small messages right after each other. These disrupt chat and make it hard to scroll through the server. Please keep your messages at least 5 words long while chatting. 4) No pornographic/adult/other NSFW material The idea behind the server is to provide a safe place for us to share art, videos, and other kinds of creative material – not to share the aforementioned NSFW material. 5) No advertisements No invasive advertising, whether it be for other communities or streams. You can post your content in the media channel if it’s relevant and provides actual value for the community. 6) No offensive names and profile pictures Keep your names and profile picture appropriate. 7) Server Raiding Server raiding is against the Discord terms of service. Any attempt to circumvent or bypass them can result in a permanent ban. 8) Threats are forbidden Threats are prohibited and disallowed. 9) Follow the Discord Community Guidelines Respect the general Discord Community guidelines. 10) No racism

There's been a lot of comments about the welcome screen - Discord is transitioning to a new feature called "Server Onboarding" and doing away with the welcome screen. It's actually a super cool feature, and you can checkout my full video on it here: https://youtu.be/P3ubh94os6o
  • A really good guide and as an online instructor and content creator myself you've got a real flair for this stuff. Great work!
