In Valhalla, the real Thorfinn said "Lucky, I am not adapted by Hollywood."

Found out while reading on wiki that he is a distant descendant of ragnar lothbrok on his fathers side

I always assumed Thorfinn was an original character who just followed Canute and Thorkell around as an observer of historic events.
  • the destroyed statue in Philadelphia lowkey wants me to start a Crusade there... 😤

When Thorfinn took those 100 punches. It blew my mind.

Love how accurate this manga is to real events. I thought Kingdom was realistic, but this is definitely more of a tribute to the era than kingdom is

Who the crap destroyed his statue!??? I swear I'm gonna lose my mind T_T. anyhoo, I'm so excited about the manga taking on the more exploratory elements of his actual life. What an amazing manga. So thrilled about the anime

It really boils my blood when vandals think it's okay to destroy a piece of history like that. They don't even make an effort to understand the historical significance and context, perferring to revel in their ignorance instead. I guess it's true that people never learn from history, else they wouldn't be attacking something so innocuous.
  • Sculpting looks like the hardest form of art to create. I’d be pissed if my statue got fucked up

Thorfin is a very unique character. I think you should Hild maybe? Idk all the characters are really good

Wait what??? the mobs destroyed the statue in Philadelphia??? That's kinda fu**d up!! Icelanders literally just mostly explorers & merchants too, far from the warmongering viking culture part (which why they escaped & live in Iceland btw).
  • I’m sorry to hear that Antifa would dare dump a beautiful statue that inspired your culture. It hurts me to see something sacred to one’s culture get vandalized or even dumped in a river. They think they’re not racist, well I find it racist or discriminative when those bastards vandalize historical monuments. My sympathies.

I am really impressed by the historic work the animators did in this. From the names of locations, sword and armour they even added saint brice's day massacre, an event not many Englishmen know. I’ve said this on others but I’ll say it here too. I often worry when japan makes an anime set on western history or culture because it’s one thing to know the history but it’s another thing to understand it. Like that one show set around an alternative universe of World War 1. Ww1 was a huge event in history for us english but for japan it’s almost none existent. So when they made the show and I watched it, it just felt lazy despite that it was alternative universe. But Vinland saga was awesome from my English perspective who loves his homelands history.
