The whole point of having the wife and kids there was to give Muzan a false sense of security that nothing too extreme would happen

If he had the kids escape then Muzan wouldn't have walked into the trap. He DID think there was a trap, but he didn't think it would be that deadly because his nemesis's wife and children were still around.

The kids loved their father and didn't wanted to be away from him even at the end. But he has 5 children in total.

Amane and the kids were ready to sacrifice themselves together with Ubuyashiki and to give him a false sense of security that nothing big will happen because people besides him were there

The thing about Ubuyashiki's kids is probably, that Muzan would have chased and killed them anyways... His focus was always on finding a cure for sunlight. Now with Nezuko in the picture and the solution being more or less clear, he finally has time/focus to wipe out the demon slayer corps. And i think Ubuyashiki knew this, when he made that choice. Plus: Like Muzan himself said - he didn't expect a trap to that extend, exactly because his wife and children were there.

the walk sets the tone and defines muzan as the villian reminding us that he's the goat. With the smoke i think its just part of the village a spell kind of sort to hide the village from being detected and muzan just walking through that barrier.
