A month ago, I applied to YC, but unfortunately, I didn't make it. Our team has been creating startups for almost 4 years and we have achieved certain accomplishments with our latest startup, even reaching the top 10 out of 200 in a local accelerator program. For me, being only 24 years old this year, it's already a nice achievement. However, we faced the reality that our competitors have more capital and connections than us, and did a lot of things better than us, while our startup was just a bootstrapped business. We lost in the competition a few months ago. Although I have talked to VCs, no luck for seed stage. Therefore, I initiated new ideas to pivot the startup and focus on the entertainment industry. However, we lack capital and connections to execute the idea, so right now the ideas are only mockup designs in Figma. That's why we applied to YC and Antler, to get things done, but we didn't make it again. I hope in the future I will have a chance to become someone like Kevin. I may not be someone privileged or the smartest person to receive a good education, but I am confident that I am a generalist person who can code, design, and do many things in business.

54:30 Relate banget sih pas Kevin bicara "Asian Kids goes to Kumon" 😂😂😂. This is one of the best content I seen in this month. Bener bener inspiring, sekaligus menyadarkan kalau org indonesia bisa sukses asalkan mau belajar bahasa inggris dan berani untuk gagal. Thank you Kevin for inspiring us. Thanks buat pak Gita udah ngundang founder sehebat
  • I'm just 18, watching this video makes my breath heavy and my heart races faster than usual, I wonder if Indonesia can survive if it's just like this?

Kevin Chandra is the founder of Typedream, a San Francisco-based startup. He grew up in Surabaya, Indonesia, and overcame language barriers through self-training and exposure. Kevin and his Diablo Valley College (DVC) friends formed a strong bond and continued to collaborate even after transferring to different universities. They had numerous failures but learned from them by focusing on marketing, sales, and fundraising. Kevin's startup, Typedream, applied to Y Combinator (Y Com) and was accepted, demonstrating the importance of a strong team for success.

I like the beginning of the conversation when the conversation is focused on the Startup, then halfway it got side-tracked to AI. I wish this was a conversation more about Kevin's different startups and the dynamic of his five friends growing these different companies instead of discussing a buzzword of the day (IMHO tech are changing all the time). Love the end though, when the questions more Kevin's personal life. Anyway, hats off to Kevin, he's really inspiring!

I strongly agree that english and confidence are what young indonesians need. I am from west nusa tenggara and i just recently realize that english is the most important thing i need. I think to achieve english fluency and confidence we need respect. I think Respect is not the same as only being polite. Tapi respect others opinion, respect when others made mistake especially in the process of learing, etc I remember i started learning english from elementary school. Now im 24 😅 and i just recently feel confident try to speak in english and still practicing now I hope next generation will be better And i hope i can go to LA watching the Lakers one day 😄 ❤❤❤ this interview
