Hi friends, happy Thursday!

Welcome to the Dark History podcast. I love a good cake. And with cake mixes right from the store, you don’t need a baking degree or whatever. Now if only I could actually get the cake in the oven before eating all that damn good cake batter. Maybe one day. But while you lick your spoon, let me tell you about America’s homemaker, Mrs. Betty Crocker. In today’s episode, we’ll learn all about her life and what influenced her to become a baker. You might want to set your timer, because the amount of FRAUD in this episode will overbake anyone’s cake! I don’t know, I tried. Just watch.

I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

  • I love how the flour companies used to put cute prints on their cloth flour sacks during the depression. They found out people were using the sacks to make kids clothes and quilts so they put cute prints on the sacks. We don't get that kind of caring from corporate America anymore.

There is a tombstone near my grandparents that on the back has “Mabel’s Potato Salad” followed by the recipe. I imagine she was asked for it many times but didn’t want to share until it was engraved in stone it was hers🙂
  • as much as we’ve lived a lie and Betty doesn’t exist, the advice does sound pretty wholesome, the fact they were even telling them advice to save money and being there for people is nice, companies don’t do like this anymore!
  • Okay but can we do a Dark History on Frida Kahlo because the way Mexico views her and the United States views her is wildly different!
  • My mother was Miss Betty Crocker 1953. It remains the highlight of her life.
  • Bailey, I am a Home Ec teacher. You can't imagine how underrated this class is! So sad. The people that make decisions about Education think life skills won't help students 😕 Wow! Thank you all! I really enjoyed your comments!

I had no idea Betty Crocker wasn't a real person, but the fact that you can write to her in Minnesota seems on point <3

I couldn’t figure out why this video felt weird after I finished listening to it. NO ONE DIED 😅
  • @mels2702
It’s like that Victoria’s Secret song, “She was made up by a dude.” 😂😂😂 How long have they been getting us like this?!
  • @nisar6339
I used to work in an office and I made cakes for each person’s birthday. I used Betty Crocker cake mixes and decorated the cakes to match each person’s personality and likes. This took me quite a while. I did this for six years. One day I accidentally heard people complaining that I used cake mixes instead of making the cakes from scratch. They didn’t know I was within hearing range. I never made another cake for coworkers again and moved to a different job. Needless to say, I don’t make cakes at my present job.

That “whole block of cheese up my 🐈” quote had me DYING. Totally caught me off guard. 🤣
  • @mixievee
Aunt Jemima was actually real! How do I know? She was based off of my Great Great Aunt. I would love for you to do a dark history episode on her! 🙃
  • @Lunariia_WoW
Can we talk about how CUTE Joan is in that little apron!!
  • @cjmorris47
I hated to hear that schools were discontinuing Home Economics classes because they really helped me learn more about cooking. Fortunately I also had a mom, stepmom & Granny to teach me at home, but not everyone has that. When I was 12, I was cooking family dinners. Not everyone gets to learn, & I feel bad for them.

"Everything you know is a lie, Barbara" 😂 I love where your mind goes. You come up with the greatest sentences
  • I was zoned out while house cleaning & I had this video playing all zoned out & suddenly Bailey says LIIIINNNDUH! Lol that's my name I snapped out of the zone real quick 🤣
