Omg i just saw me in this video. I was the kid in the white shirt with a shaved head. Holy throw back. Kings was taken over by ames in my town like 35 years ago and when ames left ocean state job lot took that over . But it still has that ames look to it. Its in naugatuck ct. There was one in seymour that had a grand opening and the next month a going out of business sale .it was open for less than a year . Like six months. Thanks for playing that commercial. It was cool as f*** to see myself . I never saw it before.
  • Still really miss this store! I have great memories of going to my local Ames from when I was little in the early 90's to the early 2000's when I was a teenager. My parents and I especially went there quite often around 1999, 2000, and 2001. They always had awesome bargains! I also loved the 80's feel of the store, and that was always part of its charm for me. I'd go there over Walmart any day if they were still around!

I'm here because YouTube spies on me. Literally 4hrs ago I was talking about the old Ames store to my husband... then this pops up on recommendations.

$25,000-$35,000 in the 90s? Damn, I want that pay now!

Rugrats Ames sign? Take it, it was left for trash.

I just pulled off an Ames price tag from a set of hardware this past week. Some stuff does last indefinitely.
  • Growing up in Pennsylvania I went to Ames, Hills and Jamesway all the time as a kid. Brings back tons of memories seeing these old stores and hearing you mentioning Hills and Jamesway as well.

My grandma shopped at Ames ALL the time. She even got a job there for a hot second for but she, in my grandfathers words, β€œSpent more damn money with her discount than she was making.” I was there A LOT with my grandma but I only vividly remember that the Barbie isle was at the front, left of the store. Thanks for the nostalgia :)

Ames was very prolific around where I grew up in Western MA. They were in lots of communities large and small. We shopped in there a lot when I was growing up but honestly by the time I hit high school (late 90s), it was considered extremely low class and looked it. But needless to say, it was very sad when they closed down. These days I would totally shop in there if it was still open.

I miss Ames but mostly Hills. The snack stand had the best corn dogs!
