I really love how this game emphasized the idea of Eggman using animals to power his robots. Normally it’s just a detail that you ignore whenever you defeat one or beat a stage, but it’s on full display here with you seeing them actually reacting happily

32:08 Fun fact - each one they get into corresponds to the design Eggman's vehicle had in their debut games (so Sonic is in the original, Tails is in the one from Sonic 2, Amy in Sonic CD's, and Knuckles - and this is the easiest to spot because Sonic or Tails actually operate it in a cutscene in that game to begin with - is in S3&K's), though the proportions are slightly different on the 2 and CD ones, presumably for balance reasons.

At this point I’m fully convinced that if Sega ever released a full polish, og side scrolling at Mach Jesus with 0 bugs and features the community has wanted for years it would be the exact opposite of “I’ll never financially recover from this” in that they’ll make so much money in sales they’ll never be able to do it again and endlessly chase that high until they go bankrupt
