In 2022, after owning Tombi 2 The Evil Swine Return for well over 20 years I finally beat both the Kujara washing AND the Trolley minigames. Proudest gaming moment of my life. Unfortunately it also reminds me I'm not good at video games.

Wait for sale confirmed. Thanks for the video. Although, that lack of death jingle is absolutely hilarious.

I was doing some digging around PC version (which fortunately worked for me day 1 and I even managed to get all achievements). The problem with modern soundtrack is because it's not played "by the game" but "by the emulator". OG soundtrack plays directly from the game emulated files, just like you would run the original disc or it's image on emulator/console. Modern OST works by muting the OG one, and playing external music file (kinda like a music player) via triggers based on the game's memory changes - hence for example, the music starts on the loading screen, because the area change trigger happens when the area starts to load. Also, very nice video.
  • Watched your Tomba videos twice through in full, this is amazing news to see

I remember playing the demo back in 2001 with the demo disk that came with MediEvil and I really enjoyed it but I also remember going to Central Park trying to find the game but never could, it wasn't until 2013 that I experienced the full Tombi game after buying it on PSN and I still love this gem to this day :)

Hey, I really enjoyed your Tombi In-Depth videos! Do you have anything in the pipeline currently? I'd love to see more from you!
  • @Superhands92
As one of the guys who only ever had the demo as a kid this release is great. I have it on Switch so I can play it on my commute
  • I have to get this GAME!! Y’all dont understand how much I loved this game. Now if EA will give us a Sims 2 refresh they would be billionaires
  • @GuvBubbs
This was just the sort of impressions video I was looking for. Thank you!

Thank you for giving an honest and fair review of this version. I'm pitifully broke, but I covet the Whoopee edition, so I'm avoiding grabbing the digital release right away, to allow myself to just barely afford to treat myself. Utter coincidence, but pre-orders end on my birthday. With any luck they'll wait long enough to drop the sequel for my finances to recover somewhat. I'm among those who played the demo growing up, but had to wait for the PS3 to play the whole thing. The sequel will be entirely new to me, as my old PS3 died before the sequel dropped there.
  • @kamijordan
well I do feel the one with soundtrack starting in the loading screen instead after. makes a big difference. I cant believe trophies are glitched. I ordered my physical game, but it seems I have to wait a year for it, awesome

Played through it on pc day of release. Didn't have the launch issues you did. I've only ever played it on PlayStation/CRT so the differences really stand out to me. The biggest one for me is the input, doesn't feel right. You're right about inputs held before text boxes. The first time you swing on a branch the tutorial message pops up, if you're holding a direction and advance the text it will cause tombi to jump off the branch when it disappears.

Just started playing this through emulation last week since i never finished it as a kid. Was completely unaware there was a rerelease around the corner 😂
  • @blazinpuffs
Some bugs that need addressed on the console copy but I had fun with it. It's wild how different 2 is from 1 though.
  • @SuileaGorma
I have played the PS1 version to death. I can confirm the glitch that shifts you up the pillar from the bottom on stormy mountain was in the original too. So any others that are found are likely not new.
  • @catmint-v4r
On the nintendo switch for some reason the button input is reversed in the item menu(Now B is A) and it will confuse you all the time.
  • First time viewer, excellent video! I played through Tomba PS5 for the first time over the release weekend and had an excellent time for the most part. I grew up playing Tomba 2, but never had a chance to play the first. Like you said, the rewind feature was very welcome for the more brutal sections of the game like Phoenix Mountains and the GoKart time trial. Unfortunately I only got 124 of the events completed, due to not knowing some of them are permanently missable if you defeat the Forest Pig before doing the seed quest for the Dwarf kid. I adored the original soundtrack, it's been stuck in my head all week. Knowing LRG, it's a long shot that Tomba 2R will release in a much cleaner state than Tomba 1R, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Side note: I'm honestly relieved someone else mentioned the audio glitches Tomba 2 has when emulated or on PS3 Classics. I felt like I was going crazy, no one else was mentioning it online! Audio also doesn't play properly on burned CDs on actual PS1 hardware, so there has never quite been a viable way to play Tomba 2 without audio issues outside of spending $80+ on a rare real copy. Cheers!

I’m very happy this game was re-launched. I had it on ps1 after playing it on the demo but lost it over time. At some point I talked about it with a friend and felt that urge of playing it again. I thought of checking it online and the price was over the roof. So I’m glad this happened and only cost me $20 instead of $200 or more

I've been playing this on switch and I have a really weird gripe with it on there. So the game controlls like it's on the PlayStation so the equivalent of the PlayStations X on the switch controller is B, which confused me a little at first cause I was pressing B to confirm and A to cancel in game but I could get used to it. But the main menu and save menu controlled like a switch game so depending on what menu I was in the controls changed and I was back to confirming with A and cancelling with B and it fried my little brain slightly 🤣🤣
