  • I think what Nintendo does is smart. The way I see it: All hardware becomes outdated at some point, so you might as well choose the cheapest one. Give all your games stylized, cartoony visuals so no one can tell your system is outdated. You get a jump on the competition in pricing, your games are cheaper and easier to make, and you can focus more on gameplay. It's brilliant.

One point you missed out on was that fact that split screen is dead on Xbox and ps5 for the most part whereas the switch can be enjoyed solo, with a friend, or with a whole group.

It's also worth mentioning how Nintendo seems to be one of the few game companies that knows how to budget a game and doesn't see firing most of their staff as a viable business strategy. Most of the folks who made the original NES games are still working at Nintendo today, employee retention is like 98% or something crazy. There a folks who joined Sony's biggest developers only a couple of years ago who have now been laid off just so the line keeps going up. It's no wonder that Nintendo keeps chugging along at their own pace when not every game they make costs half a billion dollars to make and needs to sell 20 million units to break even.
  • -No massive layoffs -Secured exclusives -Online services (albeit kinda crappy itself) comes with a wide arrangement of classic games from several consoles

It's worth noting that Nintendo is the only console maker that is also portable. Having a mobile device as your gaming platform is a huge deal in today's market.

What people tend to gloss over, or completely forget, is that Nintendo have been making toys/entertainment devices of some capacity since 1889. They look at Sony and Xbox as the new whippersnappers. In the beginning, they were legitimately competing. PS1/Xbox era. Now? Its Sony versus Microsoft. With Nintendo off doing their own thing. They dont worry about being the #1 that year, or that decade. They concern themselves with where they'll be much longer term. Being #1 is cool, but what's the point if you crash and burn? Sega, CDi, Game and Watch.. a lot of small time, and big time game companies have lived and died in Nintendo's shadow. Sony and Microsoft do market research to optimize sales, Nintendo optimizes for customer satisfaction... Except the Pokemon Company... That's.. different 🤷‍♂️

My way of thinking (and this could be completely wrong) is that Xbox and PlayStation have games that try to justify the new hardware’s existence. You constantly hear in marketing about how the game takes advantage of so-and-so Nintendo makes new hardware to facilitate their games. They’re not interested in the most advanced flashy stuff, they just make systems that can handle what they have planned for their games. Once the system gets old and/or their ideas get ambitious, they start work on a new system that can facilitate those games.

Nintendo, Valve, and Indie studios are the only pillars left keeping the entire industry from total collapse.
  • 19:59 in the beginning of the video “competition is good” At the end of the video “competition is irrelevant” Peak character growth

I view the console wars like a restaurants. Nintendo being that expanding family-chain that guarantees a good time. Sony being those places where they cook the food in front of you and the staff is always hiring. Xbox being that fancy place where the everything is overpriced and the food doesn't even taste different... PC that taco shop around the corner, they always got what I want and sometimes for cheap on a good day.
  • Nintendo hasn’t tried competing with their switch and they still won the console war for 2 whole generations, if they keep doing what worked for them, I can see that happening with their next console
  • With how often current gen fans brush off "shilltendo" and it's consumer base, it's easy to forget their system has sold 141+ million units as of present
  • @mewtkeys
You’re forgetting one of the most important consoles to ever come out this millennium. The Soulja Console.
  • @johnlucas1543
He understands. Core Console Rules 101. A Videogame Console is ALWAYS defined by its Exclusives. Without Exclusives, Videogame Consoles no longer need to exist. Everything would just go to a PC. Consoles MUST distinguish themselves from PCs at all times. They must deliver a UNIQUE experience you simply can't get anywhere else. The differential factor is why Consoles have defined the gaming experience over PC for decades. Nintendo is the last TRUE game maker making Consoles today. That's why they know these rules so well. Hell, they wrote the rule book about 40 years ago!

with Nintendo confirming the existence of the Switch 2 and the rumored reports about the specs and potential games coming to the platform Nintendo bout to solidify their title as the kings of the gaming industry if that wasn't already the case
  • As much as I do like Xbox and PlayStation, there is something that just feels right about a console from an actual video game company. Something was definitely lost when the industry shifted from game developers making video game hardware like Sega, Atari, or SNK to giant mega-conglomerates like Sony or Microsoft. Nintendo is the last hold out from those days.

Nintendo is like luigi, Nintendo won by doing nothing
