Cousin of Slain Husband Left Speechless After Autopsy Images Show Fatal Wounds

Medical examiner Russell Vega took the stand on Thursday afternoon where he broke down the autopsy of murdered husband Doug Benefield after his wife, Ashley Benefield, fatally shot him. Vega described how the bullets trailed through his body, killing him. Cousin of Doug Benefield, Tommie Benefield, sat in the gallery stunned by the images. He was seen covering his mouth while the autopsy pictures were shown.

In September 2020, Ashley Benefield ran to a neighbor's house in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and stated she had just shot her husband. Douglas Benefield had several gunshot wounds to his leg, arm, and chest area. Ashley Benefield claims she shot him in self-defense after months of alleged abuse. She was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Ashley Benefield made bail and has been living with family and her daughter since the crime.

    I'm gonna bet that Doug is not the father of the girl. If I were his family and his estate, I would demand a DNA test.

    I wish they would show the autopsy photos (but cover up face and private areas) for those of us who are curious about medical terminology and how the body is effected by trauma. Medical student here.

    I searched this case and found that Ashley who was then 24 married Doug who was 54 - a 30-year difference, after two weeks of meeting each other. This to me shows that she is a gold digger. After Doug used up his life savings to fund her ballet business that did not succeed she found all reasons to divorce him. Lesson: Do not believe that a young beautiful woman will fall in love with a man 30 years her senior if not for the money.
