This movie is based on a novel (same title) written by my favorite author Walter Mosely. Starring Laurence Fishburne. This movie shows how big a difference a man can make in the lives of others, even when he has very little to offer. Enjoy

  • To this day this is my favorite movie of Lawrence Fishburn's. Even more than The Matrix, if I saw him in real life I'd call him Socrates instead of Morpheus.

Great film. I miss the 90s. Things will never be the same.
  • The quote at the end, makes this one of my favorite movies now.
“Socrates been as low as a man can go but he came back loving hard deep and strong . Rich man will never have that kind of power and precious few lovers could ever be that satisfied.”

I stumbled upon this movie by accident and its one if the best movies i have ever seen in my life. Made me laugh, cry and appreciate life. Beautiful ❤️
  • Watched this almost by accident. What an excellent movie! It gradually hooks you in, and after 20 minutes you're living it. You forget Laurence Fishburne is acting - a sure sign of how good he is in this.

It's refreshing to watch a movie that actually makes you care about the characters and feel what they feel. 👍👍

Bought this movie from a video shop in 1998 for $3 cause it wasn't renting well. Whole family watched it and it is a family favorite! We say quotes from the movie and it also taught us to "never give up" to "be humble" and not to judge people because we don't know their circumstance. Lost the video tape in the floods but happy to come back here to watch it - over and over again. Thank you!🙂

This movie is too underrated.....it needs to be viewed alot more and appreciated as a true classic
  • The diner scene should have gotten Laurence Fishburne an Oscar nomination. Great underrated film. Well done.

Rewatching this classic. This is a gem of a movie. Fishburne is such a top notch actor, it's wild he's been acting since a kid. The earliest was in, "Cornbread and Earl" wowsers time flies.

This one of his best movies never saw this thanks dude this is a total hidden gem
  • When my parents got divorced my mom moved us into the hood because it was the only place she could afford. I felt very lonely and keep my thoughts to myself. There was a nice African American man who would always be kind to my brother and me. I think he could tell I was a bit lost. Eventually my mom re married and we moved out but I always remember how the man would say hi and talk shop with us just to make us feel more welcomed. This movie made me remember how some people are good and kind hearted with no one realizing it.

The true power of a real man cannot be bought or measured by how wealthy he is, but by his loyalty to his friends to death! Laurence Fishburne performance is outstanding! Thanks for sharing 👍💎👍

Great movie... the fact that the man wanted redemption so bad even almost anyone of them characters in the movie reminds him of himself and he hates that but somehow manages to gain his redemption... that’s why this movie is so great.
  • I'm 35 and this movie was my and still is my favorite movie since childhood. Mind you I didn't grow up in the hood but I definitely learned that good men come from all walks of life
