ALICANTE SPAIN (ALTEA & CALPE) Daytrip on the Tram up Costa Blanca to Benidorm, Altea and Calpe

Publicado 2021-11-05
Join us as we take a daytrip by train from Alicante Spain up to Costa Blanca, Spain, Altea, Benidorm and Calpe. We will explore the beaches of the Costa Blanca coast and visit the old town Altea and Calpe. Both towns are located on the Mediterranean coast and it's a beautiful tram ride to get there. See the best way to explore the Costa Blanca communities North of Alicante.

In Calpe, we were so impressed with the expansive beach and wonderful views of Calpe (Calpe) rock. For more info on Calpe Rock Park and hours of operation, see the link below:

Altea has the most beautiful old town, filled with narrow pathways and winding streets. There are many lookouts from the old town where you can see out over the Mediterranean coast.

Hope you had the chance to get your cold drink. Fun to watch cities we want to see next time we go to spain
  • Having spent 7-8 years traveling (mostly around the mediterranean) but months in each country looking for a place where we could live long term. There are so many great areas, but in the end you find a place that resonates with you, for what ever reason. When you find it you know. Our long term stay place is Altea, close to many great other areas for day trips, and each time heading back it just feels like home. Don't regret buying there at all. Calpe is less than 15 minutes, Altea city center less than 15 minutes, 5 minutes to the beach and sailing club. People are great and if you are ever back Brian and Carrie gives us a shout and could trade some fun traveling stories. And during off season it's actually a nice break from high season, actually seems like a completely (quiet) different place. Quick note on the tram, they are standardizing track and finishing a bridge near Benissa, but eventually it will be a single, modern high speed tram.

The "Calpe Rock" is called "Peñon de Ifach". Although many people call it "Peñon de Calpe", that's not the real name. And if you think to do some hiking you can go on the top, but it is quite dangerous (slippery rocks because of so many people passing). You should be experienced, go up in the morning and go back in time (with daylight!) and wear closed shoes. Take enough water with you. In the middle you will have to pass a dark tunnel.
  • Altea boardwalk is great, you should try to get back sometime (they are doing a big update so the boardwalk will be more like a park with no cars). We will be back to our Cap Negret apartment at the end of the the year. New Years is great in the old town (bring your grapes for good luck (eat one per chime of the old clock tower). Try Maná restaurant near the port and Alte Art in old town. If you want a great hike try Sierra de Bernia. I think the locals say Altea with a long a sound in the name instead of a long e sound. Cheers and we will buy you a beer next time you come back. Rich and Deb from Buffalo NY.
