Aladdin and Jasmine should NOT have survived their own movie. No, not because of Jafar or any other Disney villain but because of one small scene: the magic carpet ride. There’s NO way Aladdin and Jasmine could have flown around the world in such a short amount of time. So today, we’re dissecting what REALLY would have happened. Grab your headset and start cranking up the Disney song jams because after watching this theory it will open up a whole new world of questions!

The irony of Disney taking dark fairy tales and sanitizing them to make family-friendly animated films only for Matpat to over-analyze them and make them dark again.

I have a theory that the magic carpet wasn't just travelling, it's teleportation of some kind. During the moments between frames and scenes we could assume that the carpet teleported to another location in a blink, because they're above clouds most of the time, it'd be hard to spot the differences, allowing them to jump their way across the world like a sci-fi movie.

I love how he's going over the logistics of how flying so fast, and flying so high up, would threaten their health... while basically ignoring the fact that they are riding a magic carpet that realistically shouldn't exist let alone hold their weight midair.

One minor correction. Aladdin, without even realizing it, phrased his request "make me a prince". Not "make me LOOK LIKE a prince". Genie does consider this a wish as when he brings up the count at other times, it's already counted. So, Aladdin is a prince. Phenomenal cosmic power may not change Aladdin's memories, but it very well may have changed his lineage given it's ability to not only warp space, but also time.

I always assumed that Genie used some sort of magic to warp reality to shorten the distance of the flight and to keep them alive at that altitude.

"144,522 newtons per second" is a bit like saying my bathroom scale reads 180 pounds every second that I'm standing on it. Technically true but a little weird.
  • @HurricaneDDragon
Obviously, the “Whole New World” sequence was actually a montage of several dates that took place over many different nights during which Aladdin and Jasmine sang the same song together multiple times.

Ok let’s cut short. Plot twist, everyone in Aladdin are aliens! But hey, that’s just a theory, a game theory! Thanks for watching<3

Shoutout to MatPat and his editors who always remember to include metric measurements in this kind of videos for us non-U.S. viewers. You're the best <3

If its a magic carpet created specifically for flying, probably by so sort of wizard, it's probably got a physics-proof magical forcefield. At least, I'd definitely put one of those on my flying carpet
  • I just like to think that there is some sort of magical force field surrounding them and the magic carpet in the animated version, and that's how they survived.

Now that raises the same question for another classic Disney film. How fast was Cinderella’s getaway from the Palace before the clock struck midnight? It’s a large area to cover in a small span of time to get back home.
  • Theory: If it exists, then MatPat will make a theory out of it no matter if it's for children, adults, horror or comedy; this man sees ALL the lore.
  • I’ve always liked to think they had a magic barrier protecting them from the elements. That also means they could go as fast as they wanted without having to worry about G-force or insane speeds.

i'm sick and i felt like some nostalgia, so i clicked on this video. i feel like a 9 year old again. matpat, you were my childhood. your disney theories were always so entertaining, and although nowadays i more tend to watch the star wars and marvel videos, if any at all, this channel will always have a place in my heart.

-Your campy animation is always awesome. I especially enjoyed 13:51 of this video. -Speaking of magic, Magic Carpet could use its magic (or Genie could have helped supply it, as a courtesy) to pressurize the air directly above the carpet during the ride. Their own bubble of atmosphere with heat and oxygen, comparable to Agrabah's elevation and season. It's not a bad theory. The bubble could have included a pause or slowing of time. Because they were not moving that fast, yet they were traveling far. Maybe it is the same way Santa goes all around the world in one night. A time warp/freeze of some sort.

I haven't actually seen the live action version, but to be fair to it's version of A Whole New World, Jasmine was kept fairly sheltered to the point where she'd have to sneak out to see just the area's around the palace. For her, being able to see a bunch of the relatively local things she's never gotten to see in her homeland before WOULD be magical.

Carpet is a sentient, magical rug. It knows how to protect it's passengers. Everyone needs a friend like Carpet.
