Alan Watts was an incredible philosopher and speaker who had a unique way of exploring Eastern philosophy and spirituality. His captivating lectures and books have inspired countless people around the world.

Alan Watts was born in England in 1915 and developed a deep interest in Eastern philosophy from a young age. He studied Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism, and became a renowned interpreter of these philosophies for Western audiences. His ability to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western thought made him a popular figure in the counterculture movement of the 1960s.

One of the central themes in Watts' teachings was the concept of "the self." He explored the idea that our sense of self is an illusion, and that we are all interconnected with the universe. He encouraged people to embrace the present moment and find joy in the simple act of being alive.

Watts had a way of delivering profound insights with a sense of humor and playfulness. He believed that life should be approached with a sense of wonder and curiosity, and that we should not take ourselves too seriously. His lectures often included anecdotes, stories, and metaphors that helped illustrate his points in an engaging and relatable way.

In addition to his lectures, Watts wrote numerous books on topics such as Zen Buddhism, Taoism, and the nature of consciousness. Some of his most well-known works include "The Wisdom of Insecurity," "The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are," and "The Way of Zen."

Alan Watts passed away in 1973, but his teachings continue to resonate with people today. His ability to distill complex philosophical concepts into accessible and relatable ideas has made him a beloved figure in the world of spirituality and philosophy.

  • "..All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively; there's no such thing as death life is only a dream and we're the imagination of ourselves." From a Bill Hicks stand up that I think about constantly because it's glaringly obvious to me but i dont live as if.
  • His voice is a great one to have in your head.

The universe is you in the broadest stroke of the brush you can make with your “mind”.

It's odd how some youtubers make images of Dr. Watts as a pseudo Asian looking dude. lol. He was 100% British, by the way. Anyway, his wisdom is timeless particularly when it comes to existential suffering. He embodies the lessening of that suffering. There is a dance between oneself (Or within oneself). The union of that 'battle' or dance is nirvana, the holy spirit, etc.

It maybe a game to the universe, but it is definitely life to me

Alan Watts trying to convince me that AI are just new forms of life in the 60s makes me think there was a plan all along.
  • @cmustard599
I am always astonished by his clarity and prescience. When was this lecture? The sixties? He has insights on AI that are barely in the cultural discussion today.

3:00 was a realization I had in my room a long time ago when meditating on a psychedelic experience I had an image of a tree with infinite branches infinitely branching off and growing and it clicked for some reason 😂

Alan Watson traveled this planet as much as Jesus I'm sure he has many names
  • @JedF2010
I think that the subtitles should have said fugues not pubes. Some proof reading needed methinks.

The Universe is a game of Snakes and Ladders. The Universe may well decide to end this game, and start another. Make sure you are on the ladder when it does.
