Bangladesh Supreme Court Cuts Govt Job Quotas For Families Of War Heroes

Bangladesh Supreme Court has scaled back the job quota system amid violent protests. The country's top court called the Dhaka High Court order that reinstated the quota system as “illegal”. The high court order triggered massive protests in Bangladesh and killed at least 151 people, including police officers. The Supreme Court did not abolish the quota system in government jobs. Bangladesh Attorney General A.M. Amin Uddin has said that the country will now have five per cent of jobs reserved for families of 1971 war heroes and two per cent of jobs reserved for other categories. Earlier, 30 per cent of government jobs were reserved for families of war veterans. Amid the raging protests, Bangladesh has extended the curfew for an "uncertain time" to control the violence.

It is so sad that the police and military of Bangladesh had killed its own citizens .In Turkey when their was a military coup the soldiers refused to kill their own citizens. Many young flowering students lost their lives. in this struggle for reservation. May Allah showering blessings on the martyred students and give patience to their parents.
  • this quota system is nonsense, should never have been endorsed. When you perform an act, it must be selfless without any expectations. It's a case of asking what you can do for your country instead of what your country can do for you. This is how the country progresses.

  • 300+ students already killed by government , (source of prothom alo) We are unable to contact the country. The Bangladesh government has shut down all communication systems in the country and is killing students on a massive scale

But should you not get a job on your own merits?
  • But students in Bangladesh say it's not just about the quota movement. Who will take responsibility for the atrocities the government has inflicted on our students, and the lives that have been lost. So the government wants the resignation of all those who were involved in the sector and they should be brought under the law.

The government can cancel this verdict again if it wants. Then it is understood that this is a new trick of the government

Breaking news: The students called on the entire nation to unite.

The court made no ruling. The court only gave directions. The court has clearly said that this is a government matter, the court cannot interfere here. The students also asked the government for reforms but the government then showed the court to the students. Why? To kill the students? The Supreme Court also did not want to take any responsibility on the quota issue. Today, the court has only given a roadmap on how quotas can be structured. But the government can do more or less if it wants. The essence of today's verdict is: If the government wants to keep 7% quota or if the government wants to increase the quota of freedom fighters to 50% or more up to 99%. The whole matter is in the hands of the government. The court has nothing. Today the government talks about 7%, after 6 months and 1 year if it wants it can do 99%. Talents are not free from this hyena.
