This rundown isn’t aiming to highlight the 16 best open world games of all time. No, instead we’re taking a more nuanced look at these worlds with the aim being to highlight what keeps you going back once the main story is all wrapped up.

The open world games on this rundown might excel in wonderful side quests that add more meat to the game world’s bones, they might incorporate player choice in fascinating ways so as to affect the game world in realistic ways, or they might continually throw up surprises, or something new, that no matter the hours spent exploring you’re always likely to encounter something unique. Of course, some might be so extremely beautiful that they’re simply a joy to exist in – how an open world looks has value too.

Forbidden West and Burning Shores provided my absolute favorite action RPG experiences so far - a rich and compelling open world I got lost in for hours - and I have NG+ set up for another run I can’t wait to get back to. I think about it all the time. (And I know people dunk on Ubisoft’s worlds for being overly bloated, but Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is another great game in my top 5.)

My favourites are the witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead 2, Days Gone, Horizon ZD and FW, Spiderman 1 and 2, GTA 5 and Elden Ring, Sleeping Dogs and Ghost of Tsushima.

Shadow of Mordor is one of the most underrated & my personal favorites!

I just want to say thank you for keeping most of your content positive. I really feel like you guys actually like video games unlike some other channels on youtube.

200 hours into Cyberpunk 2077 and I’m almost done. One of the best open world RPGs I’ve ever played.

Fitting that Death Stranding was the game you chose to use for the title pic of the video... cuz that game is phenomenal in regards to it's Open World experience! The details in the game are nuts, and there's so many cool missions to go on, that help you to explore the map too. Plus, the game totally allows you to go at your own pace. 😏❤️🎧 🎮 It's honestly perfect.

Nothing like a big open world to enjoy getting lost in and completing.

Seems almost impossible to make a list like this and leave off Skyrim.

Gaming bolt editing. Best in the world 😂😂😂😂😂

Gotta give some love to Days Gone.

No Man’s Sky. It doesn’t get any more open world then that.
  • Good video. Another great open world is in The Division 2; especially with the NYC expansion.

Amazing list, hard to leave out GTA V, Skyrim, Fallout IV, KCD, Jedi: Survivor.

When it comes to open world the best are Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto (mostly all of them), Witcher 3, Skyrim, Death Stranding, Zelda, and Subnautica. These games have their own settings and world. Each of these games stand out on each of their own category.

Wrong title in the video, 'Helldivers 2 - 10 Improvements It Needs' instead of the actual title.

A great list, all titles well deserved, though I think Zelda Breath of the Wilds and Tears of the Kingdom would fit well on this list~
