"Not all holes are useful" I'd challenge that claim

That story about Genie made me cry. That whole story says a lot about not just the depths of human psychology but also the wide spectrum of evil behaviour.

As someone with ADHD, I can confirm that chronic boredom can be a much more painful problem than it sounds like it would be.

Pompeii: “This city is so boring” Volcano: “Are you not entertained?”

As someone who has spent so much time by myself for reasons like this, I've come up with so many ideas and play things out in my head all the time. I do suffer from depression and anxiety, but after years of using that spare time to sit there and just think, I actually do feel a better understanding of myself, others, how others see me, and the world around me, without the act of judging anyone or anything instantly. But it seems anytime I get the motivation to push myself, life pushes me back, so idk but maybe someday, when things don't jump in the way the second I decide to take a step forward, I'll get the chance to spread my wings.

Was always a quiet kid in school but I remember people asking me how I was able to just get lost in thought or "zone out" in any situation that was normally.... Boring. I've never know. I just don't mind boredom. If I'm bored and can't do anything I sit quietly and stare off into the distance and let myself get lost in thought. Sometimes it's as though I don't exist. I can turn a 4 hour wait into 10 minutes of what could be called meditation. Just thinking and learning from your own mind.

I read through the very long Wikipedia entry on Genie. It's one of the saddest and scariest things I've ever read there. I feel so sorry for the child (the woman). It's so terrible what people can do to other people. And the worst part is that her life is certainly not much better to this day.

I’ve always loved how VSawse integrates science, history, etymology, psychology etc. — basically I love his polymath explanations of random life things. Thanks Sauceman for always satisfying our curiosity!
  • I heard that boredom is actually a sign of intelligence because becoming easily bored means you need more to stimulate your brain
