Solar Surge will teach you all about being energy independent and how to set up your home to run off-the-grid during an emergency. We empower families to take control of their energy generation and storage so that they will never be left in the dark without electricity.

In this video, Joe interviews Raghu Belur, Chief Product Officer at Enphase and we are looking at the brand new Enphase IQ Battery 5P.

We have a large Enphase Solar System. We are very happy with the output and reliability. Now, we need to add an Energy Storage System to run the property when we lose the electric.
  • It's about time someone is coming up with a complete system. I've been waiting for this for a while.

I love the distributed architecture of Enphase products. Having the ability to just swap a redundant failed controller module in the battery is genius.
  • Great comments at the end about creating value. Raghu is clearly knowledgeable when it comes to Electrical Engineering, and knows the specs consumers care about. Another solid and informative interview, Joe! Really curious to see if their is a market for standalone batteries once bi-directional EV charging becomes feasible.
  • Enphase IQ has the holy grail in being able to create a micro grid. Keep producing and using energy even if the GRID goes down. And of course you do not need batteries., but it is all the better if you do. No comparison.

It's come so far since I started in the industry, circa '07 thru '17. Back then SMA's were the Benz of inverters, and Sanyo panels were golden. I have a simple Enphase microinverter system now (IQ7) here in Thailand, and it works flawlessly. Love the monitoring platform too. These guys are pushing things further every year to provide the total Point Of Use system to satisfy any residential dwelling. Well done Enphase.

I have enphase for over two years and it’s been flawless

Joe, once again another excellent video. Thanks for sharing.

Compared to the Enphase 10T, the Enphase 5P seems to be thinner so it does not extend out from the wall as much. That may be helpful with a garage installation.
  • Thank you Joe for entering the lion's den. Visiting Enphase head office and shaking hands with Raghu, details from the man himself, you can not beat that level of due diligence. With two IQ5P installed does that mean a home owner could sell back to the Utility 10KWh worth of power during peak buy back 6pm-7pm in California for example? In theory?
  • Thanks Joe, this is a seriously well engineered system. Also with a 15 year warranty which helps justify the expense. Just wondering about an EV charger, do we need a proper 7kW dedicated charge wall box or can we use a cheap outlet and control charging through the Enphase App?
  • This is what I am planning. I am building a small system with one 5P battery and Combiner 5/5C without the controller for now ( I can add later). That would enable me to charge the battery instead of exporting @ the rate of penny under NEM 3.0 and also use the battery power at night. I can later add another battery and solar panels and then export during the peak rate not at the low rate hours. Will see how much the utility will pay first under NEM 3.0.

Joe, great video! Do these batteries work with any photovoltaic system ? I have a Sunpower system. Will it work with Sunpower ?
  • @Anavllama
I dont have an IQ Controller yet, but I just had a combiner installed. The IQ Combiner 4. Is this combiner compatible with the 5P system (controller and battery), if not I this really sucks that I would have to pay for a brand new combiner and the install of it TWICE!!
