In this video, I show you guys how I keep track of my finances in my 20s , so everything from my income , expenses , budget , net income , and some of the information that I need to do my taxes with when that time comes around ( business expenses , business income ). Honestly, when I was first learning about how to track my money ... I found it to be a little bit overwhelming even though it felt like it should have been really easy . Turns out, once you've set up your system , it can be super straight forward and then it's just a matter of including this into your end of month routine . I kind of wish they taught us a bit more about how to manage finances in school, but hey I guess the internet is a good place to learn. I'm by no means an expert, and this is just what I do , but thought it would still be helpful to some of you or at least give you ideas on how to manage your money! I used microsoft excel for my spreadsheets ... but you can totally use something like Google sheets as well :)

✩ GOOGLE SHEETS / EXCEL TEMPLATE ✩

Update (August 2021): Since some of you requested it, here's a google sheets template that you can use for your own finances: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Jk2zghNC1A3OSbXkqw…
All you have to do is hit "File -- Make a Copy" and you'll have your own copy to edit. I left it the same as it is in the video, so obviously rename things according to your own financial needs (change streams of income, some expenses might not apply to you, different bank accounts, etc.).
If you want it as an Excel File on your computer instead of Google Sheets, just hit "File - Download - Microsoft Excel". I hope that's somewhat helpful to those of you requesting it - might help speed things up! I do recommend you still follow along with the video to understand some of it :)

UPDATE: Since some of you requested it, I have now added a template of the sheet I used in the video in the description of this video. You can make your own copy and rename things according to your own finances. A bit more info in the description box. Hope it helps! Please let me know if for some reason it doesn't work, and I'll try to fix it ASAP.

Successful people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance- wealth, a great career, purpose-is the result of hard work and hustle over time. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life..

A massive thank you Lina! This advice and spreadsheet has definitely saved my finances for the future!! I have always been lazy with managing money because havent had the need for it. Last few years have been tough since my monthly commisson has changed drastically and I didnt react to it. Started going into debt with budgets. With my calculations I will be debt free in 7 months. Im so happy! Greetings from Finland!
  • Thank you for sharing this informative video on budgeting! I really appreciate the clear and concise explanations, and I feel much more confident about creating a budget for myself. Great work!

Your template was so helpful! I worked out my spending for the year, figured out where I should cut back on subscriptions, and set up a new blank version with a potential budget for next year. Thank you!
  • Thank you so much for this video! I ve been looking for a template and a way to track my money, in a way which speaks and appeals to me, and which feels intuitive, without being too overly complicated. Thanks a ton, this has been a great start and has helped me get going!
  • Hi Lina -- this template was super helpful, thank you so much for sharing! Just had a quick question on the Credit Card section. I'm trying to keep track of how much my CC spend is but also have it be included as part of my overall spending (as I will be using money from my checking account to pay off this card every month). Not really sure the best way to go about tracking for both at the same time without double counting? (Not sure if this makes sense).

There’s also a ‘sum’ button in excel which you can just click, whilst the values you want to add up are highlighted. It’s a Sigma symbol in the top right.

I generally budget in my head, and write things down; but as of recently I’ve gotten into a few different income revenue from different things. So now I feel like I need to excel or google sheets it, thank you for the tips. Also in a yr or two (kinda late, but because of life) in investing in a Roth IRA for retirement. I’m a new sub!!!!
  • Thanks for sharing tips on how to track expenses. That was by far the most sorted way to do it.

Thank you. Useful table, as an option it would be nice to make a distinction between bills and contingencies, plus add a separate column to the bills with their due dates, just to remember when to pay.
