Trailer for John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness.

It is evil... It has awakened.

Master of horror John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) directs this terrifying battle between mankind and the ultimate evil.

A group of graduate students and scientists uncover an ancient canister in an abandoned church, but when they open it, they inadvertently unleash a strange liquid and an evil force on all of humanity. As the liquid turns their co-workers into zombies, the remaining members realize they have released the most unspeakable horror of them all. Terror mounts as the team must fight to save the world from a devilish fury that has been contained for over seven million years.

Starring Donald Pleasence (Halloween), Jameson Parker (Simon & Simon), Lisa Blount (Needful Things), rock icon Alice Cooper and Victor Wong and Dennis Dun (both from Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China), this "ingenious twist on classical occultism" (Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy Film Review) will scare you witless!

An outstanding horror film! I remember seeing the tail end of this as a kid and being absolutely freaked out by it. Even now, it's still creepy to watch. Definitely one of Carpenter's best.
  • This movie still creeps me out all these years later. One of my favorite John Carpenter movies. Seriously underrated, and my sole complaint is that the trailer shows a part of the ending.

Why this film is not more highly regarded is beyond me. I consider it Cosmic horror of the highest order, complete with interdimensional entities crossing over to wreck havoc in all places, a church. Lovecraftian and dark and full of malevolent and incomprehesible forces. Phenomenal..

I was 19 or 20 when I first saw this movie. Still creeped out by it today. Great flick.
  • to this day, i still find this horror photoplay one of the scariest & it brings back the first day i watched it. freshman in high school, indeed.

Wow, they really didn't hold back on the (admittedly totally out of context) spoilers back in the day! Mind you, it's a radically different world we live in now. Still, this is one of my absolute favourite Carpenter movies.

Loved this movie even back in the day. A quintessential eighties horror. I can't decide which is Carpenter's best movie, this one or 'The Thing'. Both are phenomenal, I watch them at least once a year.

Didn't catch this movie until the early 1990's. I can see why it took some time to catch on. Nothing specifically scary happens in the movie, but afterwards I realize I've got this horrible sense of dread left by it, and it's hard to shake.

Incredible music, maybe Carpenter's best soundtrack ever. Yeah, I'm pretty sure of it.
  • A gorgeous trailer for a gorgeous John Carpenter's movie. Donald Pleasence, Victor Wong and Lisa Blount was so sexy back in day. Rest in peace, Donald, Victor and Lisa. Amen.

John Carpenter's works were way ahead of the times. One of the best movies John Carpenter ever made. I purchased it and watched it over and over again. Like The Book of Revelation, it fits our time period now. He definitely knew about the prince and the darkness coming with him.. One should put this down as one of the best movie cult classics. And the entire ensemble cast he/John selected including, Donald Pleasence, Jamison Parker and Alice Cooper is amazing...πŸ˜˜πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ‘πŸ‘€πŸ˜‹β˜ πŸ’€

Personally I think Prince of Darkness was one of John Carpenter's best and most underrated movies. When I saw it at the theater it really creeped me out and think about the origin of Satan. At the time of it's release it did not do well at the box office but fortunately with the advent of the internet and social media this movie has gained not only new younger generations of fans but also the respect it has long deserved.
