Best part of the scene (and the creepiest part of the movie) is that the card actually disappears. The Thing Downstairs is screwing around with the laws of physics to the point that magic actually works.

That whole Film is a best scene! I can randomly pick anyone. Let's see ... "Hello, Hello, I have got a Message for you, but you are not going to like it ...".

The dream of the thing coming from the church always freaked me out

My favorite John Carpenter film. Way ahead of it's time like "Altered States" and "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". All 3 films contain the same formula: Religion, Science and Horror. I still have trouble watching this movie. So underrated and so damn good.

This movie had daytime scenes that were scary just because of the music

One of my 3-4 bundle of favorite movies. Never get tired of watching it or listening to the score (which I have on vinyl). The feeling of dread and foreboding that builds and carries throughout this movie is unmatched.

The bits of science in this are great.

I like that he points out something that always bugged me about time travel in fiction, is that the earth and the planets are always moving in space and you have to precisely calculate (or "unmove" back/forward in a fixed empty isolated spot in space then fly back) not just where but where IN SPACE you want to be.

Great scene in a great movie, but 2 scenes, off the top of my head, surpass it. When it first possesses Susan (I think she's the one with the glasses) it's amazing because accompanied by this great soundtrack sequence, with this choir singing backup, and the room is surprisingly well lit. Even in plain sight, the monster is scary. Also the translation scene, where Lisa explains the history behind the capsule - it's chillingly effective for me because it makes clear that the history of evil is actually a story that's still unfolding.

You have no idea how much truth this movie contains..Pure entertainment?..I think not!

Note he mentions having to calculate the position of the earth in the past. The earth revolves around the sun, the sun around the galactic center, and the galaxy through space. Most time travel movies don't consider that. The time machine often maintains it's relative position to the earth, and yet no one questions if the earth moved.

What's also brilliant about this film, is that it all transpires within a few days. That's not easy for a story that combines Religion, Quantum Mechanics and the other branches of Science and Mathematics. God bless!

when walter said what do you DUCKING WANT?? was the best scene lol
  • @mrrictus
Right before the scene ends it cuts to Childs: Blair do you believe any of this voodoo bull shit?

One of my favorite scenes as well. The exposition here is mind bending.
  • One of half of “ Simon and Simon” … If Rick had showed up … oh , man ! AJ’s finest role … Rocking His Brothers mustache.
