Nice to see you back. Hope you're doing well.
  • I've added a link up in the description to a Specification Comparison Chart that I hope is useful.

Great post upupaepops. I want to get the MH UL2 but notice they are coming out with a new tent the Ghost UL2 soon. Should I buy or wait?

Five yrs late to your post but great comparisson. I love my SMUL2 for the freestanding structure, low weight and stability in winds. A cinch to setup. I own a roomier MSR Freelite 2 for space but the sleek profile of the tunnel style tents is appealing. Do you still own and use yours?

One thing might worth mentioning about these two particular tents are the materials.  I researched in depth these two tents when I was preparing my thru hike of the Long Trail a couple years ago.  I ultimately went with the mountain hardware for a few reasons you mentioned.  The complete free standing ability of the tent, for the design that allows the rain fly to be open in rainy conditions.... but one of the biggest things for me was that the mountain hardware tent has a thicker denier floor and lighter rain fly whereas the big agnes tent has a thinner material floor and little thicker material rain fly.  I thought it was more important (in my opinion) to have a little stronger floor than rain fly, Great video though and I think it will help many people out when comparing the two like I have done as well.
