The EF2800i generator was introduced in 1998. It is Yamaha's first inverter generator. www.yamaha-motor.com/corporate/historytimeline.asp….

Here the oil was changed and added 20 oz 10W30 Mobil 1 to the 2004 year Yamaha Generator. Fired it up for good measure and exercise.

The owners manual is here:

Its specs are Noise Level 60/67 dba @ 7m.Yamaha’s first inverter type generator.

Yamaha's blurb from 2003 says " Our engineers looked at the total design and then made changes where they would be most effective — i.e., engine operating speed, intake noise, exhaust noise, and valvetrain noise. The most important addition is something we call "Economy Control”, which allows the engine speed to automatically change to match power demand. The EF2800i breaks new ground in the weight per output department, tipping the scales at just 29.1 kilos. It's the lightest generator in its class. The key is its multi-pole rotor with a small stator and Pulse Width Modulation inverter.

This design is smaller and lighter than a conventional two-pole alternator and large stator — and it makes the EF2800i extremely portable. The EF2800i’s inverter system features Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), so wavelength distortion is less than 2.5 percent, making it ideal for equipment that requires stable frequency and voltage."

I love my 2800, bought it in 2008. I  just change the oil regularly, change the spark plug every couple of years and run carburetor cleaner through it now and then. It runs my RV when I'm dry camping and at home when the power goes out. Never had any failures.

Geat little gennie . Had mine for years. I just do basic maintenance. She never lets me down.
  • Twelve years a go I converted my YG2800i, its unbelievable what I run in my house. This model might be the best out there. Sixteen plus hours on a #20 better than half load.

Can someone answer a question for me? I see it says it has a fuel capacity of 2.55 US gallons. How long will it run at various loads 50%, 75% or 100%? Never seem to get an answer to that anywhere.
  • Excellent i own this model . put it in and enclosure . on natural gas with flex line and grounded . and transfer switch . runs quiet. 4/19/2021
  • Can anybody show me how to take a carburetor off the EF 2800 generator a video of of 1

I have this same generator but my Eco mode doesn't work...any ideas why?

I just got one and it has no spark and I’ve been threw everything and I can’t figure it out was hoping somebody might have had the same issue and there’s something I’m over looking? Put a new coil , new pulser coil , new CDI and the lower oil switch is hood too!

I have the same generator, but it's surging up and down, does anyone know how to fix it?

3:30 In 'econo ' mode; ? So, why does the thing, vibrate across your cement pad ? Must be a 4 cycle, and they are changing the speed, and balance, somewhere . I have a 1983 ef2800, ORIGINAL. Starts right up. At 3700 rpm, and with 2 angle grinders plugged in, running the rpm goes to 3610-3630 and it produces 119-121 volts at this load level, rpm. Much better than those ' chinese' knockoff copies, made today. There are too many 'things' togo wrong, with modern generators. ( Poorly designed armatures, and field coils, in the modern generator. This old one of mine, is made 'MUCH BETTER '. Anyway, thanks for all you do, 3belt Westy ! Could you show, rpm and load output ? just curious...

    আমি কিনতে চাই কোথায় পাবো?
  • I hope this guy is not a salesman. The generator is moving all over the place, and he forgot to push back the choke in. And nearly severed the power cord with his handsaw. Jeez
