58 earthquakes within 12 hours near Bakersfield

A large cluster of 58 earthquakes hit Kern County Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. According to the USGS website, the quakes are spread out near Lakeview, south of Bakersfield.

    For 60 years, they have been WARNING about cal sliding into the ocean. I guess job security is a good thing

    That's 58 above 2.5. There were over 200 in the first hour after the initial quake. They were just smaller than 2.5.

    After the 1989 quake at 6.9 ... seismologists predicted approx. 30 years for what we call The Big One ...over 7 maybe even 9 on the Richter scale. If it hits a dense population or main city like SF or LA, there will be extensive damage. Some of the neighborhoods in both areas are built on sand basically, which can shift and even liquify. Other houses are built on steep slopes...then there's cracking and bursting of pipes, glass, facades, roads, over passes etc
