Snow Petrel Down Under is a documentary about the unique journey of brothers Matt and Ben and their father John as they set sail from Tasmania, Australia in Ben's 34ft Yacht Snow Petrel.
Their destination is Commonwealth Bay, Antarctica, the windiest place on Earth and and home to Explorer and Scientist Sir Douglas Mawson during his 1911 expedition.
Southern Ocean storms and Antarctic Blizzards along with stunning but dangerous icebergs and an incredible few days at the French Antarctic research station, Dumont D'Urville, are just some of the adventures to be had during the six week voyage.

I remember watching this about 4 years ago when I had just finished school. With no sailing experience and no real connection to the sea (I had grown up hundreds of kilometres from it), it lit a fire in me that must have smouldered along all this time. Re-watching again now, has reignited the thing, whatever it is, and I'm currently getting sailing lessons and learning as much as I can to seek out adventures just like this for myself one day.

I knew David Lewis and had the privilege to hang out and sail a little with him in Hawaii in the late 90s. Fond memories of a time gone . Aloha

As a middle age guy from the Midwest who has never learned to swim or stepped foot on a boat, I always watch sailing documentaries and shows to fulfill my urge to run away from life and buy a sailboat. Maybe one day I'll get myself out there. Thanks for the show I'm looking forward to watching.
