Short and sweet version of my method, that is, how I would teach myself to do the trilling r (combined with the resources mentioned in the other video of course).

Check the video description for links to the blog post with written instructions and pictures.

Blog post for this video:

这个视频是关于如何学弹舌的。对不起中文字幕还没有出 (T~T)。我做字幕的速度很慢。。。所以。。。 需要字幕的视频都出的比较慢。

All these r-rolling videos help me understand how blind people must feel when people try to explain colour to them.
  • @ranlieu250
The most encouraging thing here is reading the comments from Spanish speakers who say they can't trill their r's properly either. LoL

Why am I watching this? I don't speak Spanish. I'm not learning Spanish. I have a History essay due in tomorrow that I haven't started.

I'm Argentina, Spanish is my native language, but I remember when I was a little girl (3 years old), sound "rr" was very difficult for me. It took practice and practice a lot to get pronounce the sound. By this I mean that even for the Spanish-speaking children "RR" is not easy. Sometimes they are in kindergarten and still do not. So it takes patience and perseverance :) Do not worry if you do not get in the first try. (sorry for my english, I use google translator)
  • I cannot believe this actually worked!!!! The left side of my tongue was partially paralyzed when I was a child and I honestly thought it was physically impossible for me to learn to roll my Rs, but I actually did it!!!! This is the best explained example I have found. Thank you!

Why is this so hard? ._. I'm watching her do it perfectly but when I try to do it I litteraly sound like Chewbacca :[

This might sound silly, and sorry if it's long. I'm an American-born Dominican but I've tried to roll my R's for most of my life. I learned English at 5 so I lost most of my ability to speak Spanish at the same time because I was so immersed. Anyway, I was always the odd one out. I've been trying to connect back to my culture, I want to be able to speak all of my relatives and get better at my Spanish but I've been stuck because I couldn't roll my r's! I saw so many videos and I couldn't do it. I saw this one and pushing the air out and the position of the tongue is what finally got me to start my R's to roll. I can't make the proper sound yet and I still need to practice but I can finally feel it. The moment I finally did it I went to tears. Thank you so much for this video. And don't give up people!

If you feel bad aboud pronouncing the ''R's'' in spanish, just know that we (spanish speakers) struggle a lot to pronounce words like ''order'' ''murder'' ''quarter'' just like they sound in english (american).
  • @sUjU91
Guys don't feel bad I'm Mexican and I can't pronounce the letter "r" in Spanish or English XD

I am 69 years ago and had never been able to trill my tongue. I've tried the techniques in many videos but this is the one that turned the corner for me. It was making the Chinese Mandarin R sound. That helped me to place my tongue better and feel that the back of the tongue has to be more stiff while the front part of the tongue has to stay relaxed. Thanks so much!

Compared to other videos on how to trill an R, this one made a LOT of sense to me, because I've sang in a choir for years and we are always practicing mouth and tongue shaping and placement. Thanks so much for the video!
  • @roberttoe4612
I can hear your dog in the background he's saying rrrruufff rrrruufff he's rolling his rs,very well you are a good teacher.
  • @knevadaf
Huge help! I've taken Spanish off and on since I was about ten but could never trill the R, and trust me - I have seriously tried, repeatedly, over many years. Your diagram was helpful because while I'd read that my tongue should be behind my teeth, I interpreted that as directly behind, and then it's impossible to curl it properly. After I properly positioned my tongue I tried brrring my lips and BAM! I started making a sound like a broke-down speedboat as the air escaped out of the side of my mouth. Not a trill, but the first time I've ever figured out how to do anything like it. Thanks so much! Now I have somewhere productive to start.

OMG!!! Your video is a God-sent!! I am Chinese and had never been able to do any rolling Rs. I tried quite hard to no avail. And with your video, just with a few tries, I actually finally got the sensation of what a rolling R is (YAY!!). I can get one lightly rolled R out of 10 tryies, but this is a MAJOR breakthrough, and happened so immediately. I would say the single most important milestone in my foreign language learning. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
  • @kevindemiranda
I have been practicing Italian everyday for 3 months and studied spanish in school. After a long time of trying with little progress, my r's started rolling after this video! 謝謝 Amy!
