Let's Not Reward Congress For Doing The Bare Minimum

Published 2021-09-30
Congress passed a bill to fund the government for two more months, but moved no closer to solving the other crises on our hands: raising the debt ceiling and avoiding a catastrophic debt default. #Colbert #Comedy #Monologue

  • Entitlement mentality!??? As they take summers off and have amazing healthcare and retirement plans

You know what'd almost completely fix the US government? Get rid of the entire GOP. And Manchin and Sinema.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has paid paternity leave. The Congo! One of the least developed nations on the planet does workers rights better than US
  • @mrbroeders
This could be solved in one easy way...tax the rich
  • @gregyoung9980
How dare we get into an entitlement mentality, where we start to feel entitled to such frivolous luxuries, like "food," or "a home." The nerve!!!!!

I'm so tired of this "will they, won't they" drama about US government shutdown. And I'm not even American. 😂😂😂
  • @Herkimer_Snerd
Maybe if we started talking about the cost based on a year instead of a decade, it might help. It doesn't mean the USA instantly signs a check for $3.5 trillion. The "$3.5 trillion" figure is actually 350 billion per year. Less than half of the $715 billion per year spent on the military. We never say "$7.15 trillion military spending" though, do we?

I love how Manchin is from one of the poorest states that has widespread poverty, education, and transportation issues and then talks about how taking care of these basic necessities is 'entitlement' as if he isn't the entitled one compared to literally every West Virginian.
  • @NickChiuco
Tax breaks? Sure! Second amendment rights? You got it! But clean, lead-free water? Infrastructure? Free community college? Now you're asking too much! No! Nuh-uh-uh ☝️
  • Machin and Sinema might as well declare themselves Republicans, they pretty much are.
  • @naiyang888
Why are Congressmen and Senators getting paid so much? Time for a pay-cut.
  • @FUB666
….and an above ground Florida. Colbert has a way with words. I love this show.

  • Every time germanys political system frustrates me, I watch one of these videos. Instantly makes me appreciate what i have.
  • @wizardtim8573
Wow it's embarrassing having a government that we feel the need to congratulate for basic adulting like paying the bills and MAYBE acknowledging the plumbing issue downstairs....
  • Maybe add a condition that ties attendance to salary. Then they will think twice about shutting down.
  • @brandonwei2430
God, Sinema is insufferable. Also her name sounds like an after dark cable program
  • @susandevine2314
I would like everyone not voting for the laws to say out loud what they want to cut. They should go on record saying who they are going to leave behind.
