“Why would an Israeli Jew choose to live in the West Bank?”

That’s the question that motivates writer Wajahat Ali to travel to Israel in a new documentary from The Atlantic. Ali, who has been critical of Israel, embarks on a personal quest to understand the perspectives of some of the 400,000 Israeli Jews who live in the occupied territory in defiance of international law—and to hear from the Palestinians who oppose them.

In his travels through the West Bank, Ali visits the family of a Palestinian terrorist, ventures into the heart of one of the most radical settlements, and speaks to the leader of an NGO focused on creating a dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians.

Imagine a foreign family building their home in your backyard, knowing that this is illegal under international law, yet they're protected by the police, and the army even, while you can't say anything and if you did you get arrested.

Its wild we call them "settlers" instead of "terrorists"

I’m from Tunisia, used to be Carthage about 2000 years ago, Carthage owned Algeria , Morocco, southern Spain and Sicily. I’m going to reclaim all this territory, because it belonged to us.

Still can't believe how can people go to another people's house and saying "this is my house, based on what I believe in history, theology, and prophecy. And for that, I will stay here, and you have to get out of here".
  • @miguelstingray
Stop calling them "settlers". They're occupiers, plain and simple

Israeli Guy: "but we cant be equal" Same Israeli Guy: "Hitler was evil and he did not treat equally"

I feel so alone as an American evangelical that is opposed to giving Israel a free hand with everything it does to the Palestinians. You can't even talk about it objectively without being called anti-Semitic. Very sad.

The audacity of a foreigner , occupying the native peoples land, playing a didgeridoo- the instrument of the Australian Aboriginals! Oh the irony!

Like most Americans, when the war started I was all for the support of Israel, but after dumping hours upon hours of research into this mess, my whole perspective has changed. You cant occupy and control people without harsh repercussions. I dont condone violence...but what did you expect?

Crazy how that guy spent the last 2000 years as a foreigner.. doesn't look quite that old.

"Do you think building on their land is part of the problem?" "No. They are the problem."
  • @mavvi3303
you can't claim ownership over land cause your ancestors lived there, can you imagine what that would mean for the entire world? it doesn't make sense
  • @lovemetender9979
The audacity of these people to occupy Palestinian land and talk like they are the victims.

This was such an eye opening piece. I wish it was longer. He was the perfect guy to connect and speak with all those people. The last guy who said "you sometimes don't see it when it is in front of you".... well many of us are seeing and learning about it now, and a lot of us are horrified, and our hearts are breaking for the innocent, oppressed people of Palestine.

Israel has caused so much pain to these people WHY is the media not covering this?!
  • @ihabjaber8670
It is sad that there wasn't any mention of any Palestinian Christians living in either historical Palestine or the West Bank. They have stories to share as well.
