No, he was not evil except by today’s cancel culture standards. He was a man who stood by his principles, right or wrong. At least he wasn’t a phony, as so many in Hollywood are and have been.

I'm old enough to remember him in many of the westerns my dad watched. I really liked him. He was a solid character I thought. He made the entire story come together and feel real. Rest in peace Walter. ⚘️🕊

He was not an evil man sounded like a good man just had his thoughts. He didn’t hurt anybody freedom of speech.

I just remember seeing him in "The Real McCoys" on TV when I was a kid. He was memorable in that series. He was great in the film about Judge Roy Bean called "The Westerner". It was a brilliant performance in my opinion.

Walter also appeared in 2 Three Stooges shorts, first in Woman Haters sleeping on the train and 2nd in the Restless Knights where he played the Three Stooges father,
  • A product of his time. Born in mid-1894, his views perfectly reflected the vast majority of Americans, North, South, East, and West, through the next century and at least the first quarter of this one. My own Southern born and raised grandmother held similar beliefs, though not as virulent nor outspoken. Yet, her children and grandchildren saw the lie for what it is.
