Russia could deploy new nuclear missiles in response to US long-range weapons in Germany, as per the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister. Asked if Russia might place nuclear-tipped missiles in some regions as a countermeasure, Sergei Ryabkov responded saying “I do not rule out any option”. Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow would not impose any “internal restraints” on its response to US missile deployment near Russia’s border. Ryabkov stressed that the defence of the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad was a particular focus, according to Interfax news agency. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius visited the Buechel air base in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate on July 18.
