If you didn't grow up during this time it is hard to impress on people how completely "Out there" this song was at the time. Nothing sounded like this then. This stood on its own. Everyone went...."Oooh that's different". Cars is a classic.

Dad had this as his funeral song, proper funky guy he was. Miss him greatly🥰

I was born in 1968. As someone who lived through this time, no song encapsulated the death of the 70's and the birth of the 80's more than this one.

This song definitely has a long shelf life. I never tire hearing this song.

this was the future back then. still is!

If you know this song before Walmart and Grand Theft Auto, you got class.

One of the most iconic songs and sounds of the 80s!

This is the coolest synth pop song I’ve ever heard in my life, it’s so unique, nobody can top him, in my opinion!

I am physically disabled by a car accident 18 years ago since then, music is my support, thanks :-))

That has to be the best synth tone I have ever heard.

First time I've heard this song at the end of August 1979. It was shocking. I never heard anything like that before

I Remember this in high school back in the 80s! And here I am still loving and listening 30 years later! Who is with me? This pleasure principle was before Janet Jackson's! Any numan fans out there should also check him out live with nine inch nails and fear factory! He still rocks! Anyone else agree?
-
the whole synth part as the ending is so beautiful, brings me close to tears
-
Childhood nostalgia, from the first synth note 😭😭😭

Here in my car I feel safest of all I can lock all my doors It's the only way to live In cars Here in my car I can only receive I can listen to you It keeps me stable for days In cars Here in my car Where the image breaks down Will you visit me please If I open my door In cars Here in my car I know I've started to think About leaving tonight Although nothing seems right In cars
