World of WarPlanes, Ground Attack with the IL-40

This is -the tier 9 ground attack aircraft, the Russian IL-40. This plane flies great in game, but it's historical counterpart had a design failure - with the positioning of the jet intakes and the nose mounted 23mm guns, the combustible gasses put out by the guns would cause weak jet performance or even flameouts when the guns were fired, thus, why the IL-40P upgrade was produced. The IL-40P just extended the jet intakes forward and moved the 23mm cannons to the belly of the plane just under the nose. There were also the IL-40K (artillery spotter), IL-40T (Torpedo bomber), IL-42 and IL-102 (Concept planes), both beaten by the Sukhoi T-8.

    Yeah, the F7U flies OK in the game (Only flown it personally on the test server, months ago), but in real life over 25% of all F7U aircraft were destroyed due to accidents.  Pretty miserable failure rate.  It was also the last plane designed Rex Beisel, who was responsible for the first fighter designed specifically for the US Navy, the Curtis TS-1 in 1922.  Nice long career there Rex!  Shame it went out with a flop. It amazes me that something so simple could be overlooked by designers.
