If you like how the Gould sounds, check out the YAMAHA TOM HOOTEN MOUTHPIECE -    • Yamaha Tom Hooten Signature Series Tr...

In this episode, we will dig deep into another offering from Yamaha - the Yamaha Mark Gould Signature Series Trumpet Mouthpiece. Mark Gould is the former Principal Trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as well as Professor at the Juilliard School, MSM, and Mannes. His signature mouthpiece is another great orchestral mouthpiece option for those who really like their 1-1/4C or Yamaha 17B4, with a more rounded rim and orchestral throat and backbore specifications. In this episode you'll hear me rant about why inner rim diameters can be misleading, different vintages of mouthpieces, and somehow even nerdier things while we go in depth on the Yamaha Mark Gould mouthpiece.

If you're interested in this mouthpiece, you can find it at many major online mouthpiece retailers for around $50 - a very affordable price for a custom orchestral model mouthpiece!

  • Thanks for going out of your way to really dive into what makes each of these signature mouthpieces unique. Really is much more helpful than just staring at mouthpiece charts and measurements all day. Also goes to show just how ubiquitous the Bach 1 1/4C & Yamaha 17B4 really are for a great, all-around orchestral workhorse.
  • I've tried dozens of mouthpieces, some pricey, some not, and my primary piece is a plain old Yamaha.. It outplays the Reeves I just bought, at less than a quarter of the price. Insane!
  • Jon, Man mouthpieces aside, you have such a great orchestral sound! Bud would approve!🎺👍

If you ever get a chance, I'd love to see one of these reviews on the Rod Franks model!

Years ago I played on a 1 1/4C that had a pronounced flaring in the end of the backbone. Someone told me it was a special backbone and the reamer had been put further into it, creating that section at the end. I found it difficult to play on which is how I ended up on a Bach 1.
  • @TrpRui
The Gould mouthpiece is my favorite!!

What is your opinion about the Yamaha Eric Aubier mp? Have you ever tried it?
  • @paulgrimm

What C trumpet is that that doesn't require alternate fingerings for E and E-flat?

Does anyone ever mention that you have to practice about 20,000 hours to even be a hair on Marc Gould's butt ? I've seen Marc play 3 different mouthpieces while rehearsing the Hummel . Guess what ? he sounded spectacular on all of them. What mouthpiece , horn, valve caps , you use makes no difference unless you practice. Start by taking the horn out of the case, Carl Severinsen said that.
