They brought a sense of humor to music at a time when some musicians were taking themselves a bit too seriously. The band forbade technology in their recordings. They called themselves the 'Traveling Wilburys'.

Tom Petty was signed to Shelter Records ( Founded by Leon Russell ) & when the label folded much to his dismay the distributor MCA became the holder of his contract. He wanted to be a free agent & sign a new more lucrative contract.

Even the name of the band is a joke, a play on a phrase used in the studio when an artist or producer or engineer doesn’t want a cough or a burp or a dropped harmonica to ruin an otherwise good take: “We’ll bury it in the mix.”
  • @WayWillow
