How I Fixed my Bogging Chainsaw by @GettinJunkDone

Published 2018-06-14
I love my Husqvarna 450. It's the first GOOD chainsaw I've ever owned. It's been over a year and of it working flawlessly but lately it has been bogging down and stalling without the trigger pressed. In this video I explain how I went about fixing this. I am by no means an expert and used other videos and write ups to do so. Those, and all parts & tools, are all linked below.

Adjusting the low air screw until you get your highest idle speed was helpful for me. Thanks.

Your the man, worked just like you said. I have a husky 350 chainsaw. All I had to do was change the air filter and adjust the idle screw. Thank for your advice.

I've got the exact same saw, it's branded McCulloch but says made by husky on a plate. It's a great machine. Love it

I really wish you would have let us hear the problems with it before the video. Then after the adjustments. We have no idea if it relates to ours
  • @shanesmaineshop
I had to do this to my saw as well seems to be working better now.
  • I have the same chainsaw mines about 3 years old and it's now doing the same thing I use the throttle and it wants to die I'll try and do the methods you mentioned.

Hi link to carb adjust L/H drivers is bad. Leads to shower caps??? Can you send me a link. Great video and thank you for taking the time:)

For idle speed (not idle/low mix) adjustment i believe its turn ctr-clockwise till chain stops moving then another ⅛-¼ turn. As for the high mix give the saw full throttle then "loosen" screw til it bogs then "tighten" till it bogs find the highest rpm in between then go ⅛ turn looser so its slightly rich

Seems odd saw ran great for such a long time with no carb adjustment. I'm thinking possibly your bog could be caused by worn crankshaft seals or the intake leaking air and causing a lean bog stall .Adjusting the carb may cover up the problem for a while and i could be all wrong in my assumption too.

You can also get a tuning tool from a Husqvarna dealer.
  • My saw Boggs and dies before I can even get a twist on any screws. I took the carb off and cleaned it up the best I could. That didn’t help. So I tinkered with screws but it keeps dieing in under 5 seconds.. very frustrating

I knew you were from south jersey when I heard your accent
  • Thanks for the vid.  Set HIGH speed mixture screw first. Then adjust low , and lastly the idle setting.  Eventually you will get to a point where the carb will need to be dismantled and the jets / screen, passage ways cleaned out  . Hoses and in-tank filter are usually changed at this time.  Good evening job to do in the garage.  J K

I stopped the video when you said you have never done this before. I just love how beginners try to teach people.

Plug that decomp valve it's just a source of problems.
