The fulton center mall is shutting down. The tenant blames crime, but the city is suing the tenant and claiming crime is under control. What do you think?

This video was filmed in the public train stations at the Fulton center and occulus World Trade Center. Both are publicly accessible transit stations with shops. The two links below give more information on these publicly accessible transit stations.

Our criminal justice system is running like how most schools handle bullying: ignore or downplay the bullies, but punish the victims for standing up for themselves.

Isn’t it incredible that stealing in broad daylight in front of hundreds of people is no longer an arrestable crime. Astonishing.
  • As an officer here I’m so disgusted by the lack of prosecution and real accountability.

This began a few years ago unfortunately. Theft is no longer a crime in America. The police are not to blame. The DAs and politicians are making theft legal. The question is why should any of us pay for anything?
  • I like how they blur out the criminals in the video. Wouldn't want people to be able to identify the perpetrators.

To be honest, its not the NY crime closing this mall. Its the NY government not willing to do anything to stop the crime.

This is actually becoming a escape from new york situation... Never thought it would ever happen!!
  • @anon135
Remember, Mayor Adams said " New York has a Brand, the city has a Brand" Yeah it's CRIME!

It's a crazy thought, but it almost seems like defunding police and being light on crime can hurt businesses.

Gotta love cities like this, Baltimore, and Chicago. People vote how they vote, than are surprised of outcomes like this.

The design of the mall is not the reason it has a crime problem. The city is allowing crime with no ramifications.
  • What a shock. When you stop prosecuting quality of life crimes, quality of life goes down

I worked at an outdoor mall here in the Bay Area which would unfortunately get hit thieves on a daily basis. It was out of control and it’d be so brazen, sometimes with stores being hit in the morning hours. At a certain point I realized the frequency it was happening was due to the 3-4 entrances and exits this mall complex had. I always thought “Man, if only this place had some barricades, then maybe it’d help these businesses.” I did some shopping for the first time in several months and what do I notice: barricades at two points of access, so what you essentially have now is one way in and one way out. Not sure if crime has been reduced drastically but this same mall has stopped making the news here in the area. I say this to suggest that maybe poor city planning and development can create a host of problems in how it correlates to crime; if a mall, or shopping complex, or any business can be left vulnerable then it’s really easy for criminals to make a clean and quick getaway. It’s also one of the many factors why the Westfield here in San Francisco closed: BART was right there on the lower concourse - of course thieves are going to capitalize on that.

Thank you thank you. I am a small business owner and the amount of stress and financial hardship we've been under is historic and i am so embarrassed on behalf of our politicians.
  • All the police presence in the world makes no difference if DA's and judges let criminals back out onto the street the same day that they are arrested.
  • "Pulling out ahead of schedule..." Hell that worked for me countless times. Saved me a small fortune!

Theft, shoplifting & many other stealing crimes, are no longer being heavily prosecuted by District Attorneys Office in NYC. Due to new laws like Bail Reform. Which was designed to assist people in affordable ways of fighting their case. Instead people have taken to more theft crimes, using the new laws as a “get out of jail card.”
