Backpacking Washington - Rampart Lakes, Alta Mountain and Lila Lakes

It's early summer here in the Central Cascades and Jen and I are setting out on our first backpacking adventure of the season. We are starting out at the Rachel Lake trailhead and will be spending two nights at Rampart Lakes. During our time up there we hope to summit Alta Mountain and explore Lila lakes.

The regular viewers will notice something different about this video. The second day there is no narration. I was curious to see what it would be like to put together a video where the focus is on the outdoors and not us. Don't worry, this isn't going to be a new trend. But let us know what you think about it in the comments!

  • Your videos really are an inspiration to help get me through this cold season. I'm spending the winter working my ass off so I can afford the time off to spend next summer checking all these amazing spots off my bucket list. Thanks for all the work you two put into these videos, it is very appreciated <3

You mentioned that you had done Rampart Lakes, I've been looking forward to the Video. Nicely shot. I'm good with comentary, but I like the mic open and hearing the water and wind as well. Just like I'm there, except I don't have to deal with the bugs!

Thanks for posting all of the places you visit! When I first moved to Washington, I didn’t know anyone and you became my tv friends, LOL! somehow one of your videos showed up on my feed. You helped me learn about the amazing places to hike and now my friends are asking me where to go, thus I’m forwarding your videos. Thank you!!!

Been over 20 years since I been up there. I remember it was good. From what I saw now, better than I remember. Don't recall so many water crossings though. You hit it at a great time, except for the bugs. Some places just got bugs. Keep the vids up. I love 'em!

Congratulations Nick. You took one of the most beautiful shots ever since I watch you guys. You're really close to take your subscribers literally with you on the trails. Wow, that was an amazing job! Those last minutes without any words were delicately deep to me. The wind touching Rachel lake, the flowers on Alta... I swear that it touched me deeply.Thank you guys for that and thank you Jen to take me back to the 90's with Offspring as well. See you at the next trailhead! Bravo, Nick! Bravo!

Absolutely gorgeous. You hit this at exactly the right time. I experienced similar levels of bugs and snow when I was there years ago. FYI, Mt Thomson is 6554, you have it mislabeled.

I did Lila Lake back in July as well and absolutely loved it up there. I only did one night though. And the bugs at that time where relentless. Still, it was a great way to kick off my first backpacking trip in the US!
