On my 2nd pass on this video I drop down to far and take to big a bite. I get have way acrosse the pond slope and start losing grip on the bank. Once it starts sliding, I can't turn it up and stop

  • This is a great video. Will help people learn what not to do. I hope no one was hurt.

I was on a job building 4 house pads with a guy. He ran the dozer and i ran the roller. We had to cut 6 feet down at the front and fill about 15 feet at the back. He said the slope was a 1.5 to 1. The toe of the slope ended right at the roots of trees. I have around 40 hours of seat time on a dozer and he had about 40 years of seat time. He built the slopes from the bottom up. When it came time to finish them he ran up and down sideways and turned on the slope. There were rocks on it and he had to track them in. The dozer would bounce on the rocks. He had to leave early and we needed to place topsoil on the slopes. I tried to track across them with top soil. I slid down a a little sideways i mean a microscopic amount of slide. My tracks had just sat fully on the slope. I backed up and left early too. Haha.

This is the best tutorial we've seen yet. Its the inverse, do everything but this !

Good video, Brandon. Not the worst incident I've seen. And yes, you're right- there are virtually no training resources out there. You look like a good operator to me. :)
  • Thanks for sharing the video Brandon . Build from the bottom up ! Not top down & pump the water out of low spots .
  • When you're building a slow and you got water below your pond you go up and down kind of sideways you don't go all the way sideways just because when he got in trouble there he was really in trouble if he'd have went up and down at an angle not straight up and down but just in an angle he'd have been fine just let the blade go to the water and back right back up I mean I've done it for 40 years now if you don't if it's just a hold that there's no water in and it's pretty dry at the bottom you can go sideways which I love doing slope work

I understand man you didn’t know that’s what I looked like my first time to but you’ll be a pro soon good job man

hard to tell from camera, but it looks more like a 1:1 slope. A 1:1 slope is exactly 45 degrees. A 2:1 slope is about 26.5 degrees, which is not very steep.

Did some back tracking on a 2:1 today with a D6 low track on a dry stock pile. Little unnerving to watch the high side track unload but it didn't slip much. When I first started I was planting the blade too much but got used to it and got a nice finish.

No problem man I don’t wanna be negative towards anybody. He can also start at the top and shave the dirt off then go up and down tracking it in . Nice machine though man

I'd be sitting down and buckling my seat belt at the end.
  • @jalan9700
Reverse left track forward right track lift up on blade at same time front end swings down and left
  • @kkbno1
    Turn left going forward

That's why I was never a good dozer operator... I'm mean on a grader though! ;-)

Someone needs a stick ruler & a 4' level cuz 2:1 that is not.
