  • Aw you left out like the best line ever during his bathroom speech "we all pee the same color here at NASA"

When Taraji P. Henson signed on for the lead role, she met with the real-life Katherine Johnson, who was 98 years old, to discuss the character she was about to portray. Henson learned that Johnson had graduated from high school at age 14 and from college at age 18, and was still as lucid as anyone years younger. After the film was screened for Johnson, she expressed her genuine approval of Henson's portrayal, but wondered why anybody would want to make a film about her life. IMDb RIP Katherine Johnson(1918-2020)
  • Re John Glenn’s reaction to the computer giving false data was another highlight. “Ask the girl. The smart one.” He could have said the black one or any number of inappropriate racial adjectives but the makers of the film decided to separate genius from skin color. It was also what Glenn actually said but movie makers rarely care about reality if it serves their story.

One of the best movies ever. I have it on DVD and rewatch at least once a year. I grew up in the 50s and 60s, going to the school auditorium to watch launches. BUT never learned this beautiful history until this movie came out.
  • This movie is absolutely fantastic. I googled all the people in the film after. Amazing people!
  • I was an extra in this movie. You can actually see me at 4:44 standing to the left. This movie was such an incredible experience. I was there when they filmed the bathroom scene where she said she had to go to the colored bathroom and it was so amazing watching her work and bring such intensity. They would cut the scene and film again like most productions do and between takes she would joke around telling the director it's a wrap and she was done and they would film again. They kept that up for a few takes and finally on the last take she started dancing around. You could see Kevin Costner was trying not to laugh. He would turn around and go into his pretend office. They filmed the Nasa scenes in 2 locations. The scenes of the office with the big chalkboards was actually filmed in a high school gymnasium in Atlanta. The other parts of NASA was filmed in an old mental health hospital that has been shut down for years. It's the same place they use for Hawkins lab in Stranger Things. We worked a lot of shows at that old hospital.

She gets some of the most iconic roles in historic and mainstream movies.
  • I think the smashing the toilet scene was the same day based on how Katherine has on the same wet dress and wet hair
  • She solved the question Sheldon couldn't. She must be a genius
  • Never knew of this story but glad it came up on youtube. WOW. Well done Katherine. Peolple like yourself are the ones that have made the scraficies for the people of today, many of whom expect a free ride. Thank you for your strength and fortitude in a trying time. You have enriched humanity .
  • It’s a fantastic movie. I’m watching it now on Cable. I’ve seen it several times. Never get tired of it. I still can’t help laughing in the beginning where the little girl who was the Kathrine Johnson character, was doing a complicated math problem and explaining it like a pro and seeing everyone’s jaw drop including the teacher. Kevin Costner was good in it too.
  • As someone who's calculated my share of numbers before an audience, I love the hell out of this scene. Time after time.

I bought this film as someone suggested I watch it. You should buy this film and watch it. Three black women who helped NASA with their figures to put a man into space. Watch the part where KK and the black woman go into a meeting. KK asks his colleague what the figure is. His colleague cannot find it. The black woman just simply comes out with it and astonishes everyone in the room with her memory. Then she is handed a piece of chalk. Goes up to the board and proves her figures are right. Well worth watching. A good story and it also shows the racism these 3 women had to put up with. I give this film 5 stars out of 5. A damn good film to watch not to be missed. PC. 20. 08. 2022.
  • Glossed over her 2 friends but they were 30% of the movie and a huge impact.Mary Jackson being the first African American female engineer is a huge achievement a great part of the movie. Dorothy Vaughn is spot on a perfect representation portrayed in the film. I loved it
  • @Judithica
I've read the book and seen the movie and still seek this out on occasion. Chills. I love this.
  • @benjac9
Wasn’t aware of this amazing real-life story until I found your platform. I have now seen the movie and will ensure everyone I know does the same. Paradigm-shattering. Love the power of the story.
  • Re the bathroom scene. His parting shot was a highlight of the movie: “At NASA, we all pee the same color.”
