Your dad is truly a good man!! And THAT is what a good dad would react! Especially when his young son in his first steps of building his future, he is obviously cares more for his son's future and less about his dream car !! If this was from an older father with and an older son a son who already built his future this whole scene might be completely different Im gonna even say that if this event happened when this generous young son was much older with children of his own and gave his father the same gift !!
