Terrible Design Means An Unexpected Peugeot 406 Repair - Broken Front Spring. Peugeot 406 Front Spring Repair - Plus New Brake Hose & Anti Roll Bar Link

BOING! Spring has sprung in Lincolnshire ... but sadly not in a good way. Whilst reversing out of the driveway, Dad's rusty but trusty Peugeot 406 decided to lower itself. Due to the poor design of these cars, sadly it damaged a lot more as it went. Thankfully not at any speed.

In this video Dad repairs his car for £70 including a new spring, brake hose and anti roll bar link.

  • I had a 51plate Pug 206 in that colour green, it was great as it didn't really show how dirty the car was in the winter. Great bit of work "Dad" and a lovely video to watch Jon.
  • It’s a pleasure to watch how methodical and with some comedy 👍🏻, you re Dad approached this job 😂, that’s a good looking barge the 406 👍🏻
  • Well done Jon and Pete a great job on the good old 406! It’s back on the road to live another day great repair and great explanation and chat as usual all the best Daniel

The orange Smart in the background looks like a slightly evil monster lurking in a steel cage 😆

There was a brake hose campaign change back in the early 80’s that affected many VMs caused by some premature failures of hoses supplied by a major UK manufacturer - my personal experience came shortly after this as I was involved in the specification and testing of the new and ‘improved’ hoses - having tested and examined many many hoses in my time could I suggest that you throw those hose clamps away, I’d never use them on any car of mine - instead I suggest depressing the brake pedal to advance the master cylinder piston beyond the cut off vent and hold it there (bit of wood) release the pressure at a bleed nipple and cover the reservoir top cap (as you did) - this will retain most fluid without damaging the hose

My suggestion is a woolly hat with a go-pro mount so you can cut to "Dad Cam".
  • According to Evilution the 451 can be bump started: 1) Turn ignition to position 1, 2) Hold the foot brake and push the gear lever right to select gear 1, 3) Push the gear lever forward again to select gear 2, 4) Release footbrake, 5) Press accelerator to the floor while still stationary, 6) Start rolling or get someone to push, 7) Once the car is moving the clutch will automatically engage and the engine will start.

I can’t believe your dad has volunteered to go and do hubnuts starting motor for him. Now that would be good content aswell. Can’t you have a poll on if you and your dad should go? 😂 would love to See your dads face it would be priceless. Loving your videos 👍

23:00 The Austin Metro (1980) had brake wear sensors, actually make that sensor as it was only on one side. Not sure if it was the first but it was the first I saw. They also had four pot brake calipers, even on the basic 1.0 versions, something back then you’d only see on competition vehicles (and the Austin Princess)

Your dad makes it look so easy :D Talking of Hubnut, you considered buying his GSA? Would be interesting to see what your dad makes of it... Got even more Frenchisms than the 406.
