Smart Fortwo 450 Front Shock Absorber Replacement Has Turned Into A Full Suspension Rebuild - Part 1

Legends! Remember that time when my Smart ForTwo 450 went bang? I do ... thankfully Dad was on hand to rebuild the entire engine. But we didn't touch the suspension.

The series is on the Channel ... But if you fancy more smart car woes ... here it is.

After a recent video trying to diagnose gearbox faults ... Dad noticed a knocking from the rear of the car and discovered the rear control arm bushes were totally broken. Dad also noticed that the front of the car sat very very low. We decided that new shock absorbers were needed. In this video ... we start that process

Bought and fitted a pair of Lesjofors rear springs for my 451 and they are the best. I would certainly buy Lesjofors springs for the front if/when I need them.

A beautiful rendition of maverick Wakefield showman extraordinaire, Mike Terry's iconic showstopper "Torremolinos". Has your Dad considered becoming a Mike Terry impersonator?......

Your dad is now Lincolnshire's Smart specialist!

For a second I thought the Smart ran on dog treats 😂 Another fun day in the workshop 😊

Knocking at rear quite likely to be anti-roll bar drop links, or anti-roll bar bushes. I fitted new shocks and springs to my 450 about 18 months back and it also seems to sit too low now. I have a suspicion that some of the after-market springs tend to sag quite quickly compared to the originals.

Must be the magic price for a pair of QH struts I paid the same for my i10 and then discovered they were made in China anyway they're done about 10k so far.
