In today's video, I'm sharing all the things I slashed from my budget when I started my debt free journey that I also thought would be very hard to give up, or that I would miss. Turns out, some things I don't miss at all and I'm happy to put that money towards my savings goals, or towards some "Fun Money". I love a mindful spending plan, where you spend on the things you value, and cut the things that you don't.

  • It would be great if you could explain how you transitioned from spending all your time shopping to what you do now since you aren’t shopping. I’m trying to curb my spending as well. Really appreciate your content ;)

I've cut out frivolous spending on clothes and makeup. Simplified my skincare routine as well, drugstore items are truly effective, and better than high end! Watching this has reminded me to get back to monthly budgeting. Thank you!

As someone still navigating financial literacy your money vlogs truly help me figure out how to be more frugal and find what things make me happy so thank you 🙏🏽

Hands down best investment we've make is a high end, automated, espresso machine. Got it second had (yay). The cost per use after a couple of years is really negligible. Then we compliment it with really good beans. The joy a good cup of coffee brings is really priceless!

Before the pandemic I was religiously getting my hair done at the salon every 8 weeks. Now I stretch it to 3 months because I noticed my hair growth was slowing down a bit and I could easily get away with visiting the salon once a quarter. Savings=$400.00 per year. Gel Manicures have been cut back as well to 8 months a year instead of every 3 weeks. (I do my own with just clear polish on the months I’m “resting” my nails from Gel. Savings=$450.00 per year I also don’t impulsively shop anymore online or at the mall and plan out my few purchases of the year carefully and intentionally. I now buy only quality vs. quantity and way fewer items. Don’t buy new books anymore either. Loved this video! Thank you!

I feel like as of lately, buying things online in general has become an addiction, and my mental health/mindset around that has caused me to feel more internal stress than usual... being more mindful of my compulsive urges seems to be the one thing that's still a work in progress as well as my own attitude towards going out and doing things in-person, whether it's shopping or other activities.
  • I love being surrounded by the books that I enjoyed, and enjoy supporting authors and my local bookshop. One way I’ve cut down is by borrowing from the library and then only purchasing books that I truly enjoyed, versus every book I want to read (I read 100+ books every year so it adds up)!

Good food is one thing I enjoy most and vacation. Curbing habits on shopping and makeup is what I’ve been more conscious of. Ive gotten better at buying things that I actually wear based on lifestyle not just because it looks cute or everyone has it. Also learning techniques on to care for clothing so they last longer. Lux items are great but I’d rather used my money on great vacation with family to create memories.
  • This year I decided to buy thrifted items for wardrobe items. It’s been enlightening to look for clothes in natural fibers. I really look at quality now. It’s amazing the finds that I’ve scored. I believe in buying good coffee—organic fair trade—and making it myself. The nearest coffee shop to me is a 20 minute drive. I admire your decision to get debt free. I vowed when we got free of debt (no mortgage, no car note ) that I would never pay interest on purchases again. It’s been several years ,and so far I’ve kept that vow.

Loved this video! I've cut buying starbucks, because I really do prefer making it myself but was being lazy, and have added that money into my grocery budget instead. Way more worth it.
  • @palodantas
I learned what I really like to wear in terms of skincare and makeup, and now I only buy the items I love. sometimes I fall into temptation, but some videos like this help me get back on track. I used to spend a lot on items I didn't like or weren't good, and after donating a lot of things, I learned that a small box should fit everything I use.
  • I paid off my debt and I am debt free presently. But, I still budget for impulse buys because I cannot act like at any moment one can go back into debt if not careful. These videos are so helpful to me! Thank you!
  • Yes!! Coffee is not what makes or brakes your budget !! And you're sooo true about the pleasure of having Coffee outside and the importance of helping local Coffee shops. Thank YOU.
  • Debt and spending have never been significant issues for us since we tend to be pretty frugal naturally, but during a couple of job layoff periods when we needed to look for ways to trim our budget, we tried the "extreme budget" coffee route and man was that not worth it! At least for us, it was such a (relatively inexpensive) simple pleasure and didn't impact whether we made rent, so we both agreed to stick with the coffee we liked and find the savings somewhere else. I kind of think that if you make frugality too unpleasant, you're less likely to meet your goals because you just get "over it" and want a treat and then boom, back in spendy mode.

Ithese videos are great because a lot of people are not taught budgeting, finance, credit/debit etc. Thank you! I spend on high quality food (meat from local butchers and veg/fruit from markets/farms). I save on not buying clothes, no alcohol, no smoking, and shop in charity shops.
  • @HanasRoom
I have been watching your channel for so long, like since the start of your minimalist journey and I just want to say that your content has helped my shape my content. Now I am facing my own balances of money, wants, and needs and I just want to thank you for sharing what you have learned. It may sound super basic, but I'm sure there are others like me who are hearing these things for the first time.
  • Another great video! I cut out wine/beer/spirits because of some health issues and I don't miss at all! I also cut red meat and most cheese from my food shopping and that helped a lot. After 3 years of Ebay clothes shopping, I am now actually buying clothes in stores: just bought some pretty high end dresses and shoes that are giving me great joy. Have a wonderful summer and thanks for excellent tips!
  • @madolynamira

I personally live for travel, and would probably have a semi-nomadic lifestyle if I could find a way to still do my job. Pre-pandemic, I would travel abroad at least 2 or 3 times a year, plus multiple trips domestically to go hiking. I can live without the fancy gym membership and the trips to the coffeeshop, but I will spend the money on travel EVERY TIME.
