Are you doing a No/Low buy this year? Remember a day, a week, a month, a year - this is YOUR challenge! Xo
-
I recently lost a parent. With that, I realized that they only thing we take with us is memories. As a result, Iām determined to declutter my home every six months, buying only what I need, and save my money for travel. Creating memories is my goal, not collecting stuff.
-
For me it's not about money or being addicted to spending money/shopping, for me it's about not having any real hobbies other than going to a (second hand) shop and browse. I am using my no-buy month to see if I can find other hobbies and activities that don't necessarily involve buying things.
-
I decided to make 2024 a no buy and decluttering year. Why? 1. I have too much stuff. 2. I've been spending too much money buying things I don't need. 3. I want to retire within 10 years. 4. I don't want to leave a lot of unnecessary stuff for my boys to clean up when I die. 5. I want to make life peaceful. So far I've decluttered 2 closets, multiple cabinets, and drawers. It can be overwhelming, but just pick one small spot at a time and stop when you get tired. I will not stop until every room is complete. I don't even want to bring anything new into the house at this point. Seeing results is amazing. Thank you for making videos to encourage us!

I suddenly thought of a no buy as a vacation, (confident that whatever the item, it or something better, will be available when my no buy is over) it can be a vacation from stress, anxiety, decision fatigue, and constant advertising harassment. I haven't before thought about the stress side of shopping, only the "ooooh bright shiny!" side of shopping.

I'm always trying to curb my urge to shop. I did much better last year thanks to watching your videos, espcially my tendency to shop for my 'fantasy self' and impulse buying. That woke me up and made me assess everything I have, so thank you. This year I want to continue selling my unwanted things and work on my saving goals. I also agree that it's very hard to stop shopping completely and we shouldn't beat ourselves up if we do slip up sometimes.
-
I have decided to do this because I was so disgusted with myself seeing all the packages (on sale...)) come in this week. The overconsumption doesnt feel like me and I know I am using shopping as a way to deal with my anxiety. I used to binge eat as a teen and now I binge shop and purge return. So I will beat this problem too...Hopefully we will all be better this year!

I love your tips. š I will say this for the sake of encouragement. 100% of women (who live long enough) will go through perimenopause and menopause, and it starts in your 30s. When you are in the thick of experiencing body changes and finding your new style identity, give yourself grace. Figure out your new health and fitness. Buy and return as needed until you are comfortable againā¦and then youāll be in a position to be as strict with yourself again and embark in as many challenges as youād like.
-
Thank you! This is so helpful; I'm on a "No buy" for clothes, shoes, and makeup. I just really needed to draw a line and use and enjoy what I have āš¾ š

I wasn't even planning on doing a no buy month but my first week passed with only buying groceries so I might as well continue the good streak throughout the month.
-
I'm embarking on a full no buy year for 2024 to get my impulse spending under control and appreciate what I already have, basically exactly what you said in this video! ā¤ I'm posting on socials everyday to stay accountable and have curated the content I watch so that I only see the stuff that helps!!! Love all your mindful money and fashion videos on this channel.

At the end of last year my car died and i had to use all my savings to buy a new one leaving me utterly broke. In the light of this I decided to do a no buy January which has expanded into a no buy year and your content is so helpful! I have followed you for a few years but after 5 years of shopping too much - i blame menopause and covid lockdowns - I am ready to take control. It feels so good and actually a relief. Oh and I am a nail biter also so a monthly manicure will be the perfect reward for my discipline. Keep the motivational vids coming. Love your work <3
-
Thanks for this video! Iām on day 56 of a no-buy (started randomly on November 19th because it was TIME), and itās finally starting to feel good and comfortable ā¤ your videos really helped me stay motivated, thank u

Iām motivated by the Sustain This episode where you talked about only buying five new items per year. Considering consumption as something that impacts the planet along with my wallet and storage restrictions makes me think before I buy. Iāve been creating seasonal capsule wardrobes and putting everything else in bins. Itās so freeing!

Committed to a āvery low buyā year for 2024. My āwhyā is that I have lots of clothes, makeup, skin care and books - need to āuse it or lose itā. So Iām wearing and using what I have until the end of the year. I will buy new skin care etc only when I have run out. This means using up my ā just in case/ backupā products. If they donāt work or are unacceptable for some reason, I give myself permission to get rid of them at the end of the year. And if I havenāt worn/ used it by the end of 2024ā¦ I will let them go with no regrets. A few exceptions: possibly an outfit for an upcoming family wedding, new prescription sunglasses, a lightweight black blazer ( longtime wish list item). I do find the ā all or nothingā approach works best for me - less decision-making, no ānegotiating with myselfā. And I look forward to a cleaner inbox after unsubscribing to lots of retailer mailing lists.

This is excellent advice! Super helpful. I'm doing a no buy on some categories and a very low buy on certain things as true needs arise. For example my black leggings were getting thin and pilling. Not good for winter LOL. So when I went to the thrift shop, instead of looking at all the racks I went straight to The Pant section. I found a nice quality pair for 5 dollars! Then I went straight to the checkout rather than shopping all the areas. It saved me a lot of time and money.
-
Excellent advice!! So many clothes, not enough time to put them together in a fashionable way! Letās get it!!
-
Hi, Christina! Happy New Year! I'm definitely a no-buy for January for clothes <3 And low-buy for the rest of winter (hopefully much longer), your channel have been helping me a lot <3

This year one of my new year's resolutions is a no buy year challenge for clothes, make up, accessories and skincare, which are the cathegories I tend to overconsume so I can change my spending habits and appreciate more what I have š

Your videos have really helped me understand my compulsion to shop. Now I pause and think about what Iām avoiding, whatās making me uncomfortable, etc. The urge passes.
