The Pokémon company has now decided to essentially erase the term starter Pokémon and replace it with the term first partner Pokémon. A lot of Pokémon fans don't like this change at all because starter Pokémon is such an iconic term for many fans.

  • This is a Twitter vs X situation. I don't care what Pokemon Company says, I'm calling them Starter Pokemon.

I don't care what the pokemon company says. I am not calling them first partner pokemon.

Marge: “Grampa, they aren’t called that anymore” Grampa: “I’ll be in the cold, cold ground before I recognise the term First Partner Pokemon”
  • @littenguy
I’m still call them starter pokemon
  • To quote MCU Samuel L Jackson; "I recognize the council has made a decision, but given that it's a stupid ass decision, I have elected to ignore it" For real, this isn't like the pronunciations of Pokemon names that people argue over despite the official pronunciations, LITERALLY NO ONE actively calls them "First Partners" as a collective term over "Starters"

"Oh boy I can't wait to pick up my first Partner Pokemon! After that I might try to catch my second Partner Pokemon."
  • I think the only reason the Pokemon Company chose to call them First Partners instead of Starters is because they have a bad habit of rejecting anything the fanbase comes up with
  • @DaMrWiz
Remember, in the Indigo Disk trailer they said "every first partner Pokémon returns" but they didn't bring back Wooloo, so not even Gamefreak plays by the rules
  • @goldlight1322
I saw a book at my local library today called “First Partner Pokémon” with various Starters on the cover. I didn’t think anything of it, but I also didn’t realize this was a thing they were pushing.

First Partner Pokemon is too much of a mouth full.
  • Anything can be a first partner/Starter pokemon if the definition of it is "the very first pokemon you ever receive"
  • @PokemonNom
You never heard N say “first partner Pokémon” SO IT DIDNT HAPPEN
  • 'First Partner' sounds like we're being talked down to by The Pokemon Company, 'Starter Pokemon' is snappy & to the point. They take it away from us, but we're still going to call them Starters.

Actually a rectangle can be a square, rectangle means a polygon with four sides and four 90° corners. A square is a specific type of rectangle
  • @MrSonicHedgehog
Point of order on Eevee not being a Starter: it was one for Gary in Yellow, both Espeon and Umbreon technically count for Colosseum, you start off with one in Gale of Darkness, you can play as one in Mystery Dungeon and in LGE, it's literally the Starter of the game
  • @mreggy08
I’d argue pikachu and eevee should be considered starters because they are the first Pokémon you can choose in a mainline game
  • @kaotic300
starter: the first pokemon you get in a pokemon game first partner pokemon: the very first pokemon you got in your very first pokemon game

This is the reason why teachers tell you in school never to use Wikipedia or a variation of it
