"They don't normally do things arbitrarily" Meanwhile, Chopper's hybrid form looks nothing like either his natural body or his human form. Also, Armament and Color of Arms are the same thing. Rayleigh used the color definition when first explaining the types to Luffy and by extension us. Armament is just shorthanding. Haki is fundamentally one force and the different methods of applying it are referred to as "colors" of that force.

Gear 2 is pumping blood on his blood vassals giving him more speed. Gear 3 is blowing air into his bone giving him more power. Gear 4 is blowing air into his muscles focusing more on compression. Giving him more power and speed and his range increase.

When Luffy does 3rd gear, he blows to inflate his bones, in 4th he inflates his muscles. Great reaction, thank you for a good time.
