Exploring a 266 Year Old Fort of the French & Indian War | History Traveler Episode 103

Published 2020-11-29
Many Americans may be unaware that without the French and Indian War, there would have been no Revolutionary War. In this episode, we're traveling to central Maine to explore the site of Ft. Halifax, which holds the oldest surviving wooden blockhouse in the United States. And we try a lobster grilled cheese sandwich! Always learning!

Your spotlighting under developed historical sites should light a fire under state congressional leadership to invest in making these more accessible tourist destinations. Do you ever contact state historic or preservation societies and governors with your videos? You’re really doing a kind of survey of under appreciated national assets, a national service to our country. And frankly, the kind of thing that can bring all Americans together in a sense of patriotic pride at a time when our nation could really use this. In this way, your videos heal our sick national soul. Thank you.

Nicely done JD. I was stationed in Winter Harbor and we biked across Maine a few years back and you captured the State and it’s history perfectly. I wish you all the luck and hope someone out there in the film world will see your gift and support you even more. Again, thanks for the venture.

Great to see this! I particularly enjoy seeing the old structures like this to see how they were built. It doesn't get much older in the US. Thank you!

Great video on a structure used during a war that is rarely discussed. Thank you J. D. and we look forward to your next video!

Fort Halifax washed downstream in a flood and people went and found all the timbers and reconstructed it. This is very easy to get to. Another fort very close by where Benedict Arnold also went to is Fort Western in Augusta.
  • I know the struggle single Dad so my son can eat 3 meals. It’s impressive how you get used to it eating ones a day. Great video as always

Very good production. Perfect use of drone footage. In the early 80’s I got a twin lobster dinner for $14.99. Miss those days.
