  • Hey Tim, when we mow unknown property we keep the bucket on the front and let the bucket ride right above the ground so if there’s anything the bucket makes contact instead of something important. Might also mitigate the buildup of debris on the radiator. Keep up the good work.

Very good video Tim. As others have said, I too leave the FEL w/bucket on for unfamiliar ground, but if I'm mowing our areas that I know I prefer the HH weight bracket as well for better visibility.
  • I find mowing very satisfying especially in the tall stuff. It’s also good to see someone doing the job right like going all the way in the grass.

Tim, it is so fun watching your videos. you have such joy operating your little tractor and using all the attachments. When I'm watching you tackle a new job I can't help but hear Alan Jackson's "Little Bitty" playing in the background. What is funnier is that to the big farmers, my 100 HP JD is little bitty. It's all about perspective. Keep up the great work!

Running into unknown junk is what I worry about when mowing someone else's property, but I don't do that any more. One woman told me her property was clear and I found a block of concrete which held up old houses, an air conditioner which was close to the back of her house, and many other items which slowed me down. For the quick hitch you have there is an attachment which will allow you to connect up to the mower deck easier. I have one which I purchased, but only need it with my box blade as everything else is easy to attach using the quick hitch.

Tim, good video I use my front loader and keep it a few inches of the ground when I do this kind of work. It helps if you run into something unexpected.

Couple of my experience tips. Always "mow" unknown properties with the FEL attached. You can use it to push the brush down ahead of the tractor and find hidden obstacles. Also when you find the one hole that is wet and you get stuck, you are able to push yourself out. 2nd pro tip, carry a hand held leaf blower to blow your grills and radiators out. Makes the process much quicker. I use mine constantly when brush hogging. I have Johnny's bigger brother a 4066r with cab. My a/c gets weak before the temp climbs when brush hogging.

That mowing adventure was a good one really tall weeds. I'll have to look for one of those extended hooks for my quick hitch. Love the Ted and Peanut comparison, got a real chuckle out of that and the flip flop farmer. Great video.
  • Hi Tim! The last time I had a project similar to this, I use the FEL on the front to Tamp down the grass in front of me for two reasons... The first being to discover any unknowns in the brush. My Hope was that I would come to a stop with the bucket before I would do any damage to the mid-mount should there be a rock or obstacle that I didn't see in front of me. The second was that it made the mowing a little easier having the grass lay down before it was cut. Just a thought, it definitely helped in that project for me maybe it would for you on a future project like this. Also, I found just shutting the mower off, the dandelion debris and clutter on the front vent just fell away because there was no longer no suction on it. Keep the great videos coming!

I really like how both of you parent that awesome daughter who proves girls can tractor just as well as guys

Good Video Tim. I was impressed how well the bush hog cut the tall stuff in the beginning also I agree it does a better job than the mid mount mower on the corn stalks. I like that you explained about the (rake) the front of the bush hog being lower than than the rear when mowing A lot of people don't realize you should always put a slight rake front to back on all mower decks we set up our machines to have 1/16" to 1/4" of rake most mowers will cut better with a little rake in the deck

This video was very informative. Wow, that was quite a jungle you cut through. I can see where a larger tractor would be an advantage in a situation like that. Our current house had been vacant for several years before we moved in, so the yard was in need of a lot of work. The previous owners left us a Sears Craftsman riding mower. It did an ok job, but there were spots that it could not go through due to tall, thick grass and some reed-like plants. In addition to that, the mower had a real rough ride. Fortunately for me, the guy mowing our neighbors yard took pity on me and mowed about an acre of the tall stuff for us as a “Housewarming” present! He has one of the Kubota “L” series tractors with a brush hog. It made short work of that area. Once that patch was cut down, I tried it again with the Rider mower and found a hidden rock garden that was made by the kids of the previous owner. That cost me a set of blades. I ended up taking two loads of rocks out of the field to clear it. I now have a tow behind DR “Field and Brush” mower that works pretty good. I tow it behind My Polaris Ranger, which has suspension and the ride is much more comfortable now…:) I am still on my quest to get a tractor of my own and I am told by the “Boss” that we are just a few months away from making that dream come true!

Perfect video. I have a King Kutter field mower and wanted a quick hitch that allowed room for a PTO on a budget. Thanks!
  • @bigtig2008
Wow! That was more than a challenge. Great job
  • I routinely mow growth like that, with a Toro Groundsmaster 325D and a front mount flail deck... a $6,000 rig (total)... and when the clippings dry, it's stripes are better than most finish mowers.

Great Job Katriel. Using the FEL to push down the tall stuff really helps.
  • Nice rig, try a cordless leaf blower for cleaning the front, I use mine for engine/air screen cleaning after mowing. Works like a champ.
  • @jordanfoltz8729
I have done a lot of brush hogging in my time. You need a 40-60 horse tractor and a mesh grade on the roll bar so your face or head doesnt eat a giant splinter or rock . Nice vid A 10ft brush hog works for what you are doing, 50 to 200 acres get a 15ft batwing
  • @legobuilder6590
I've done a lot of bush hogging and I've found if you keep the loader on with the bucket on to push the brush down helps prevent over heating an dust build up
  • @ronmack1767
That was interesting on hooking up the brush hog. Katriel did a great job for the flip flop farmer. LolHope y'all have blessed Thanksgiving.
