  • I had a 2021 KLX300 (it became available locally first; I'd have taken either). My buddy got the CRF300L and addressed the suspension. So, take the suspension out of it. I rode both back to back on sandy single track. Pushing it on the single track, there's something about frame geometry and the way the bikes carry their weight or something. The KLX was heaps better off road, in my opinion, end of story. That being said, the CRF is probably the better overall bike, if you're going to do more mixed riding with more time on the road. Also, I witnessed what you mentioned about how the Honda is less robust when crashing off road. My KLX was dropped several times with nothing breaking, while my buddy had to replace rear brake lever, gear selector, and the rear plastics from crashes. Light crashes. But here's a real concern: I had problems with my KLX. It spent time in the shop with electrical gremlins. My buddy's CRF has been reliable. I replaced my KLX300 with a CRF450L and CRF250RX and have absolutely no regrets. So, maybe the KLX is the better more dirt capable dual sport, but the Honda is most likely the more reliable and better well-rounded bike.
  • "I'm too old to be uncomfortable" this is definitely a channel for me to follow. Greeting Vegas!

The RoManiac tells it like it is! f’ing love your commentary and assessments. fantastic. guy has the best plain english explanations — and it may not even be his first language. love love love this guy. absolute classic/legend🙌🏽👏🏽🔥
  • Fellow Romanian here. I own a Yamaha WR250F. Love it but it has its limitations, like not being street legal, fuel range pretty low, and the noise it makes. I recently bought a used Honda CRF250L with 9000 km on the clock. Bought the CRF with the intention to sell the Yamaha. But guess what, I no longer intend to sell my blue love. The two bikes complement each other in the sense that one excels on the dirt and the other is more all-rounded. When I want to do some workouts and get all the muscles activated, then it’s Yamaha time. If I want to explore the nature and ride longer distances, then it’s time for the plush Honda. Love your comment about being too old for being uncomfortable:) Would be great to meet you in person if you plan to come to Romania any time soon. Cheers!
  • I made my decision back in 2019 to go for the camo KLX 250 because it is better off road. It is perfectly fine on the road as well. Still love it and that better suspension is very apparent off road.

I made a touring bike out of my Yamaha. It has a steering damper, 4.7 gallon tank, heated grips, heated seats concepts seat. Hope to do the Trans America trail with it. The Yamaha will pull all day on the highway. 350 watt stator is what makes it a touring bike. Pretty sure it's motor will have the longest life span.
  • Great discussion. I bought the CRF300L because it became available locally so I jumped on it. I ended up putting a K-Tech rear shock on it. I bought their front spring, but haven't swapped it yet. I decided to put all the performance upgrades that you see on youtube. I just ordered the Yohi slip-on, the DNA high performance air filter, and the EJK tuner. Yeah, it's costing some money, but I'm looking forward to what it will be when I'm done. I also dumped the stock tires for a D606 rear and a Pirelly MT21 front. If I dump enough money into it, I won't have to rely on my skills... LOL!!!

Pretty solid breakdown. I think I'm leaning towards the 300L rally for the bigger tank and the little windshield. To me, it's worth the extra little bit of weight and I'll take that squishy suspension.
  • I'm gonna get the Honda new, 57 years old, did 10,000 klm on my push bikes last year on road and off road, 1st motorbike, love exploring, great video you've made my decision.
  • 2022 drz400E, 134kg wet weight, hp at crank 48hp (41 whp) 2l oil capacity, top speed 140kph (160kph with 15/44 sprockets) fcr39mm pumper carb additional tuning not required, alloy bash plate, radiator guards, bark busters standard. fully adjustable high quality suspension, high quality components like cables, gear and brake levers, proper reusable air filter accessible without tools, proper tapered roller bearings in steering stem not ball bearings like a bicycle, grease nipples on suspension linkage and swingarm., takasago excel rims, separate full subframe, huge aftermarket support and a 22yr track record of being a reliable and capable lightweight adventure bike that has no equal. even if i was in usa and could only get a drz400s i'd get that over the bikes you mentioned.
  • For me, at only 20 to 30 lbs more, I would pick up a moded DR650. Tons more power and torque, and arguably as or more reliable. The DR650 suffers the same soft suspension but is so much better at duel sporting, so much better on road. And the aftermarket is better than all 3 of your picks. I got my '06 in 2013 for $2100, put another $4k into it. I have 2 set of wheels; knobbies for light Enduro (yes), and some Shinko 705s for duel sport adventures. I'm 55yrs old and I wreck it and pick it up all day long. Good to catch up on one of your video's my brother.
  • Tough decision, but of these, I would have to go with the KLX 300
  • I would personally go with the KLX 300. if a little more power is wanted you can always mod. as far as reliability is concerned Kawasaki is like 3rd or 4th in over all reliability. out of all of them. when it comes to looks is all subjective. give it a paint job. anyway awesome channel bro!!
  • Nothing wrong with those bikes. They are all tools for individual purposes. I could have purchased the crf250, wr250r and still bought the DRZ400E that is still available new here in Australia. I thought I may keep it for a year or two and then upgrade to a KTM690r. But 5 years later, 20,000km later, I still have it and am surprised at how good it is for a 20 year old design. Why? It weighs less than the crf250 144kg and only 4 kg heavier than the wr250R. The DRZ is known for being built proof with some doing over 100000km without a piston change. The suspension is much better than the Honda and on par with the Yamaha. Absolutely nothing wrong with the carb if jetted correctly for the elevation. 5 speed gearbox but if geared 15/44 can do 100km all day. On a light dual sport with knobbies, you would not want to travel much faster. The DRZ has such a large following for a reason.
  • @Alaska_MD
I love this video, because this is the what all motorcycling comes down to for me...a dual sport that's not too heavy. There aren't many choices. I went with the 300L, and for me it's the best compromise out there right now. I would like a WR350R, but that may never happen. The 450L is just too twitchy from what I'm hearing. Until the world changes, I think this is the best option right now. I agree with everything you said.
  • I stayed to the end, my advice is to go with Suzuki haha! But seriously, I vote for the KLX300 cuz of something you didn't even mention, in 2020 it came out with electric start.
  • @RideAMAP
Dude! So funny that I'm looking at the same type of situation in my riding life right now. I want a light weight bike that is newer and reliable. Thanks for doing the research.
  • @babar69110
117kg wet 390 beta RR. 750 ml every 30 hours. piece of cake, five minutes. hard enduro in mines sand and single tracks at weekend, long enduro offroad trips SRB ALB, MTN, BG RO everywhere with 6kg luggages. FUN, that is the main point. I ride bikes for FUN ;) See you in RO sometimes where you are around. Cheers ! Glad to see u back on web. take care !

The Klx250s is good off road. Add the Bill Blue big bore 351 kit with the pumper carb and an aftermarket exhaust. This is what I have. Loads of tourque and great throttle response. Very happy with this setup.
