  • You know, I had this up a few days ago, and nobody, not a soul apparently, looked at it, so in a stupid fit of fear of impropriety, or of the opinions of others, I took it down. That was silly. Despite many mistakes, this was a sincere attempt to artistically represent a time, a place, an undeniable part of our culture and our history. Yes, it was a first-time experiment, trying hard to figure out how to do it and how to show it. But I was afraid maybe I had made some gauche and, in these times of neopuritanism and systemic lying, maybe too frank, or somehow offensive image choices. I'm ashamed I let myself be influenced by any such concerns. All I really regret are the technical mistakes and the poor selection of soundtracks. In art, once one handcuffs their ideas to other peoples' view points, be those view points good bad or inconsequential, you must drop the pretense of creating art. What you are doing, really, is trying to make people like you, and you're afraid of seeming "different" or not nice. Those are, possibly, valid concerns when buying Christmas presents, and maybe painting your house, but they have no application to art except to kill it. So endeth the sermon for today. Do not neglect the collection plate as you leave.
